Money. Rising costs for everything and the desire for a better life cause the lower tax bracket is so miserable to live in, youre willing to do anything to make it out.

Price for goods should be cheaper but instead gets higher.

The spark is from a time where shit was affordable so less pressure to earn and be risky.

the op is not well articulated but the notion he touches on is kind of interesting. how rigid and narrow game concepts have been for decades, even in the golden age. you really don't see that many games with creative structures, 99% of the time you're just a guy running down paths killing bad guys, to the extent there's anything else going on it's usually a momentary gimmick instead of something that would define the game.

Nice, congrats on getting Spelunkerpilled.
The arcade games are really good, it's too bad the NES game gives the whole series a bad name

indie games.
but games aren't cheap to develop anymore. and if a game is developed by a handful of people, it takes literal years instead of weeks to months

No he has a point. Easy times allow people to sink time into passion projects and ship products that might not sell

The other factor is that new technology attracts brave and eccentric souls and nowadays game craft has been thoroughly codified and crystalized

I think the NES version is fine. Just sucks itโ€™s over quickly and the rest of t he game is redoing the dive with some parts being invisible

no he does not have a point. this is a more fundamental issue than the economy being crappy creeping into game design. games have been too consistently limited for the last 30 odd years for that to be the hinging point.
