How difficult and time-consuming was game development back then? Most established studios didn’t have hundreds of employees and had to use their own tools and engines, unlike today, yet they still managed to release a title every two years or so.

Games were smaller and simpler then , not to mention small teams had talented staff and there was no room for dead weight.
