Never played Neverwinter Nights before. Which is better, 1 or 2?
>>11838692 (OP)1 got more fanmods/modules.
2 looks ricer.
don't buy the gayass "enhanced" version. just buccaneer it from some torrent. you can even find the old GOG versions on some polandball or steam-pirating websight.
download the fanpatches even for the old(not "enhanced") GOG versions. GOG only fixed them for WinXP, not for more "modern" windows.
>>11838692 (OP)1 runs smoother and has a better editor and fanmade shit. 2 has more companions who are better writen and have more dynamics between them (1 only lets you take one at a time while 2 lets you take three). Both have the Bioware signature dialoge options letting you be a dick, a pacifist or anything in between. They use most of the same OST with a few exceptions here and there. Most people dislike the first act of 1's story/main quest, i would say 1 has a bit more intrigue and 2 a bit more adventure. They're generally the same game at the core, mechanically and stylistically. On the surface, 2 is a bit more epic and cinematic, but not at the expense of gameplay.
If you're gonna play both eventually, just play them chronologically to appreciate the evolution. I don't thing either is a bad game, i enjoyed both.
>>11838742>1 only lets you take one at a timei never beat the main games in NWN1, but the fan modules allowed me to have up to 3 party members.
You've got me curious. What RPGs do these have the most in common with?
>>11838692 (OP)obviously 2. sequels are always better
2, both the campaign and expansions are better.
>>11839950Icewind Dale 2. It uses the same DnD rules using the same engine that Baldur's Gate did. It's closer to Neverwinter Nights 2 since you have control over a whole party.
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 use similar rulesets but aren't fantasy.
Thanks for the replies, everybody.
>>11838692 (OP)They're both D20 slop so they belong in the trash.
God I remember people so excited for this game, like it was gonna revolutionize D&D sessions and you wouldn't necessarily have to wrangle a bunch of people to everyone's house anymore, because you could do everything online instead.
Then it came out.
>>11842687Honestly, with VoIP you absolutely could run a D&D campaign in this now with the DM voicing NPC's.
>>11843034I mean the real problem was that it lacked the appeal of Icewind and Baldur.
And none of us could put our finger on it.
>>11838692 (OP)1 is a modding toolbox, the official campaigns are all pretty bad but there's a gajillion fan made ones, 2 is we have Dragon Age Origins at home though the Mask of the Betrayer campaign is pretty interesting provided you don't mind the ever present hunger meter
>>11838742I only played 1
The base story lets you have only one NPC companion but you can have multiple human companions because it supports multiplayer
Shadows of Undrentide lets you have more than one NPC companion and I don’t know if it lets you play multiplayer
Hordes of the Underdark is singleplayer and lets you have multiple companions
>>11838692 (OP)1, it's not even a question. It's a timeless lightning in a bottle kind of game. The full D&D experience.
2 is jank, it looks and plays like shit. Almost purely degrades nwn.
Get the EE, you can play it online and modules are more accessible.
1 is a better game overall, plays better, looks more graphically consistent (especially spell effects), but the included campaigns are mediocre with one exception. You can get a lot of GOTY fan made content though and multiplayer is fun af.
2 and expansions have better campaigns and story telling/characters. It also does the classic castle building minigame.
Both are worth playing. By all means try the first game, but don't get your expectations high for the main campaign. Just see if you enjoy the gameplay and overall feel, and if you do, look into fan made content and expansions.
>>11838692 (OP)1 is a considerably better game.
Ive seen so many people over the years say one is better, i haven’t personally played it, but the consensus seems to be the amount user generated campaigns are so vast in nwn1 it outclasses its sequel, but you cant control your party, so i dont care to ever play it.
That being said i have played alot of nwn2 (only the original and dlc campaigns) and it has incredible character building as far as stats and build go, really fun combat all around.
alot of variety, its just generally great, better than dragon age which i played the same year.
Also nwn2 is written by obsidian not bioware, so the writing is much campier, but also weirdly bleak at times, as is their signature it seems, your personal enjoyment will hinge on your tolerance for dnd camp, one of your party members for example is just a dwarf drunkard who deeply wants to get to a monastery, to learn the fighting style of the monks, because a group of them beat his ass in a bar brawl.
>>11846186Thats his whole motivation for the whole non dlc main campaign, and hes not a gag character, he has dynamics with other npcs and you, he just has a very simple goal, its very unique writing in that way, some other characters do have more complex motivations to, so the writing never feels one note, it has alot of tonal shifts that are handled very well
>>11846186>dwarf drunkard who deeply wants to get to a monastery, to learn the fighting style of the monks, because a group of them beat his ass in a bar brawlEvery man has gone through this at some point in his life
>>11842442>>don't buy the version people actually play onlineyou're a faggot social media retard then >>>/vm/
also online play worked fine in old version.
