One of my favorite things about the GCN is all of the weird connectivity features that it had. You could do cool stuff like link up gameboy players to play multiplayer GBA games on separate screens, tunnel LAN games like MKDD over WarpPipe, have your Animal Crossing character visit a friend's town by giving them your memory card, access special features of F-Zero GX Arcade by bringing your memory card from home and plugging it into the machine, using your GBA to enhance GCN game features like the Tingle Tuner in WW... there were even some games that supported internet rankings through passwords like Ikaruga and fucking Twin Snakes of all things.

You could do so many neat things like this. There wasn't a whole lot in the way of traditional online support outside of a few games like PSO and Homeland, but honestly it felt more special as a result. What it lacked in regular online multiplayer, in made up for with unorthodox connectivity features.

This console was an example of a company doing almost everything right and still failing

As I'm playing Skyward Sword I couldn't help but think about the last time Nintendo cared and genuinely tried when making their games and the GC era was definitely it. Tons of experimental titles and faithful revivals with their IP's, genuinely felt like they put creativity before profits and werent afraid to make mistakes... sadly, I think that was also a double edged sword due to the profitability not being up to snuff. Then comes along the Wii and really gets their eyes on what profits can look like if you cater to everyone and not just the "gamers". Follow that up with the Wii U's failure as they tried to reach the more hard-core audience again and thats all she wrote. It really is a crying shame, but like every other flame during the sixth gen, they all eventually got snuffed out.

It is a top 15 for sure, maybe even top 10 for a non-PC/portable gaming console to me. There has been so many cool mods for the console, but I've not heard much for the later editions like the Toys 'R Us exclusive gold one which lacks the digital out port. I really wish there was a mod for it to output that signal for use with a Carby or GC HDMI. The community sort of stopped after all the innovation with the serial ports, broadband adapters, new bootloaders, bluetooth capabilities, homebrew, and GB interface; they even custom mold controllers/buttons, but nothing for the lowly latecomers like myself that got in when its price was reduced.

You should dispute this, GC is the worst place to play 6th gen multiplats. The controller forced many developers to outright remove actions you can do in games (entire SSX series for example has entire trick trees cut) and the layout is awful for many others such as Tony Hawk. You miss out on too many multiplats, it's front heavy for the first half of the generation but every later release is absent on there. No MK Shaolin Monks, Gauntlet Seven Sorrows, Burnout 3/Revenge, Black, etc etc. Getting it for your 6th gen multiplats is only going to guarantee you a very incomplete experience, not to mention games almost all run at the same res as PS2 (512 lines) unlike Xbox, but with a worse controller that makes doing basic actions impossible or at best annoying to do in games.
