I got the sense that you roll with whatever characters you like the best. It's not like Celes had that protagonist energy either, she just pined for Locke's cocke

There's really no single protagonist, it's very much an ensemble cast where the story is about several people at once.

People wanna call either Terra or Celes one of the best female protagonists of all time, but they seem to swap the role of protagonist so nobody knows who gets the honor.

Thr main character is Sabin. He's the only one who's consistently present from beginning to end.

>In a dramatic production, an ensemble cast is one that comprises many principal actors and performers who are typically assigned roughly equal amounts of screen time.
I'd say this describes FF6 pretty well, especially in the WoR section of the game where everyone gets their own stories to follow.

Autistically adhering to Amano's concept art without understanding there were reasons behind changing things for the in-game art.

The FMVs were made by a b-team almost a decade later. They probably didn't play the game. Just looked at the concept art and made a render.
You see something smiliar with FF5 on GBA, where they add the portraits in and characters now have the wrong hair color.

This game sucks cause all the characters are underdeveloped because there's like 20 of them that have to share the screen. They only that isn't bad is Celes, but even that's putting it mildly. I mean, Celes is an okay character, at best. But the rest are so trope-y and forgettable that she manages to look amazing by comparison

There's only so much you can do with 16 bit caricatures. IMO serious scenes end up being cringe.

You only like Celes cause she's hot. Edgar and Sabin are the most complex characters.

Both are the protagonist. Two cute girls are always better than one cute girl. Therefore, FF6 has the best female protagonist of all time.

FF6, the game, is a playable version of a historical account written by Mog that detailed the events that you play through.
It's like how Star Wars, the movie, is actually the retelling of events that happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

cyan easily has the most emotional scene in the game, i like him the most as his motivation is less saturday morning kids cartoon evil and more based in a genuine and understandable want for revenge against kefka for murdering his wife and child.

This anon gets it. Terra and Celes are the protags by nature of being the linchpins that set in motion the events around them in each world respectively. Aside from that, (almost) everyone is the main character due to the depth of development and focus being relatively similar. But in the end, its technically Mog due to perspective alone.

As others have said, it's an ensemble cast for the most part, but there are some characters that are given the spotlight more than others, and those are Terra, Locke, and Celes.

For most of the first half of the game, Terra is literally the Girl Who is the Key to Everything, so most of the plot during that part revolves around her in some way, and even though she's technically optional in the second half, she still shows up to help in the ending, and she has the most complete character arc should you finish her recruitment quest.

Locke is the only character who is present for the entire first half of the game, only missing for the two scenarios he's not a part of early in the game, and his motivations and his past are a big part of the reason for that. He's the only character who is forced into your team for both the spots where that happens (the first being with Celes, the second with Terra), so unless you don't take him along to Zozo, the Sealed Cave, or the Flying Continent, he's there for it all. He becomes optional in the second half, but he serves as the major motivation for Celes to keep living and fighting.

As for Celes, she of course has the whole thing with Locke, but her place as a general of the Empire is kind of a big deal and figures a lot into everything that happens in the game from Vector onward, and proves decisive at the Floating Continent. She of course becomes the de facto main character in the second half, being one of the only mandatory characters, so that certainly helps.

World of Ruin was an afterthought created because crunch did better than they expected. Everyone gets at least a single side quest but the only characters who have any real amount of story progression is Celes, Terra, Edgar, and Locke.

what makes it even more noticeable is springboarding off of V where the cast consistently stays just the same 4 people throughout it.
7 really nailed the perfect balance between having an expanded cast and making sure they all got a decent enough amount of personal development and screen time to still be memorable whilst not detracting cloud's story as the protagonist, even IV does this better than VI.
there's a reason people only talk about terra, celes and locke 95% of the time, and thats because they have the most focused characterisation in 6.

In FFVI's case, the pixel art was made first, though I assume that only refers to the character sprites and not the menu portraits.
>>11842478
Yeah, the GBA ports doing that made them virtually unplayable to be. There might have been an option to turn them off, but I only remember that being the case with PSP IV.
