I'm thinking more so when it comes to "normal" characters that aren't said to have explicit chi powers. Someone like Guile or Johnny Cage.

I figure Guile is just really strong, and so patriotic that he dedicated himself to his military training far more than anybody else. So much that he started throwing chi. Officially, he learned his fighting style from Charlie (explaining why they're similar), who I assume also learned it from advanced military training.

Canonically, guile is also supposed to be a total scrub compared to Charlie. Charlie can throw one handed SBs while Guile has to use both hands for example. Iโ€™ve never went out of my way to confirm this, but supposedly Guile is really weak in Alpha 3 to reflect this.

To me Guile and Charlie are like Ryu and Ken. Ryu and Guile are fundamentalists, they stick to the basics but have honed those basics to an incredibly fine edge. Charlie and Ken are specialists, they've already mastered the basics and take their techniques into new directions to make it their own.

It comes out of power level thinking in manga and asian media, which is derived from chi and asian mysticism around martial arts.

In the mystical view, humans are not just matter but posses a special power called Chi. Some can harness this power more than others, giving them extra-ordinary powers.

You see in Dragon Ball how this is harnessed for chi blasts, which then were the direct inspiration for Street Fighter's projectiles. Ryu adn Ken even make the same poses as the Kamehameha .

Either she is the greatest fighting prodigy in the world or channeling chi into physical energy balls is something an average person can do with just a little bit of practice in the SF universe. Or she can't *actually* do it and the lore and gameplay diverge.

Sakura is a super genius even if she behaves that way, part of her canon explains she was able to imitate gouki techniques after 3 days of following him (tanned her skin just to look similar).
Is kinda similar to how she learned the hadouken she only saw ryu use it and was able to copy him (the only techniques that she learned from dan was the style of fighting from ryu and ken).
This is why she is considered the strongest on street fighter.

As another anon said I think it's usually just chi
I prefer western fantasy where supernatural powers usually come from magic, religion or super serums or whatever
Chi can be badass too when it just makes you stronger or throw chi blasts, but when it starts acting like magic I don't like the flavor that much
if you google chi vs magic there's many differences, even in Dragon Ball for example

Yeah Guile has always been an odd one to me. His style is mostly down to earth and efficient to reflect that it's military-based, tight boxing stance with boxing punches, fast kickboxing style kicks, greco roman wrestling throws, all things that are practical and good for survival in a fight. But then he has weird flashy shit like this that would get you killed if you tried to pull it off regularly. It seems more like something a break dancer like Duck King or some crazy kung fu guy would use.

He's moving his arms so fast that a wave of air or sound comes out. But I think it's just more ki.
It's one of those very Asian things that they will just project onto other foreign non-asian fighters, just because it's essential to what they consider a martial artist. Stuff like shouting your movies, gravity defying stunts(through qigong) , and throwing blasts of energy. For Guile, it's literally what it says on the tin, but also in a way the very idea is very Japanese. American developers wouldn't do this unless it's some sci-fi stuff with lasers, something superhero-ish with energy blasts probably complete with kirby-dots, or straight up inspired by Japanese games or Chinese xianxia like Mortal Kombat was.

Bison is partly based on Yasunori Kato, who knows a lot of Japanese occultism and mysticism like summoning yokai, using shikigami, and all that. Psycho power is way more vague and super villainy than that so I'm not gonna say they're the same, but there's a connection in inspiration.

All of that is right on the money. People forget the mystical aspect of martial arts, it's why even ninjas can do the things they do I bet. But
>You see in Dragon Ball how this is harnessed for chi blasts, which then were the direct inspiration for Street Fighter's projectiles. Ryu adn Ken even make the same poses as the Kamehameha .
I don't know about this. The guy who designed the kamehameha always mentions the wave motion gun in Yamato, which I think he means the specific look of it. People then think this is where energy blasts come from, because I bet he assumed everyone knew what ki blasts were.
And I bet Dragon Ball took it from some Hong Kong movie somewhere, since Toriyama loved those.
