I really like how SA1's story is told from six different perspectives and you have to play them all to get the full picture.

Nah, it's not hours later. Robotnik needed more time than that to build Carnival Night and Launch Base. The JP manual and PC readme have a part where Sonic is chilling on an island thinking that the Death Egg's gone sometime later, and then something washed up on the beach that gives him bad vibes and he goes to get Tails to check it out.
