I recently beat Snatcher and wanted to playthrough Policenauts since I've heard its Kojimas magnum opus. Which version is the superior way to play it?

Who the hell told you that lol, most people consider it inferior to Snatcher, myself included. Still fun enough, I like the shooting sections more in this one. I played the PlayStation version, but I heard the Saturn one has some extra scenes.

Saturn version is the best one that's currently has a translation. I wouldn't consider it Kojima's magnum opus, but I enjoyed it.

Which version does Anonymouse recommend? I don't use Retroarse, I'm fine with setting up an emulator for a single game. NA version is censored from what I've read.

It's as good or better than Snatcher. Saturn is best apparently, but I played Playstation and it was fine.

Sega CD version, censorship is minor, basically just some missing tits (on a corpse) and an aged up girl who's covered up a bit more. I'd recommend it for the official English translation and dub, and also because it has the option to use a lightgun for the shooting sequences (they're not that common, but it's neat). The MSX and PC-88 versions also don't have the final Act that appears in the Sega CD and TurboCD versions.

The original PC-98 release is by far the best version of Policenauts. Its not even a competition.

You should play the PC-98 version if you can read Japanese, and the Sega Saturn version with the translation patch if you can't. Machine translating the PC-98 version like >>11845662 said is technically an option, but the differences aren't significant enough to be worth putting up with the jank and low quality translation the MTL route will inevitably give you. Maybe its worth checking out on a repeat playthrough, but definitely not for a first time.

You shouldn't, just watch it on YouTube or something. It's a glorified visual novel, snatcher at least had actual gameplay

I'm that used to so many bad attempts at this visual style from the last decade that I can't look at this picture and recognise it as being legitimate.

Last year I went back home and recovered my dad's old Sega Genesis from my mom's hoarder house. I played through snatcher on Sega CD (original hardware) on a Trinitron with the blue light gun. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

I played through Policenauts on the psp when the English translation came out well over a decade ago. I remember it being cool. Its on my list of games to replay.

Snatcher is the better plagiarized story. Lethal weapon in space has a lame story.

IIRC Saturn version has higher resolution art assets and more frames of animation. The Playstation version also censored boob jiggle or something.

However Im really only posting to tell you that if you enjoyed Snatcher and also enjoy JRPGs, you should definitely play SD Snatcher on MSX. Its fully translated and is a lot of fun and has a pretty unique combat system.

There's a racing game that has nothing to do with Snatcher but takes place in the same universe.
