What are the best games on Eggconsole? I know very little about old Japanese PC games, some titles I recognize and some I don't.

The ones I want to recommend the most are the ones that actually require Japanese fluency to play. Popful Mail, Ys, Mado Monogatari, and Xak are some of the best games, but those are all RPGs and unfortunately EGG doesn't do translations despite selling the games internationally (not because they don't want to, but because the amount of people willing to pay for it wouldn't justify the cost).

Picrel from 1988 is a willyvania that easily mogs any western insect IBM-PC/AT slop from the same era. Doesn't require japanese and OST is Koshiro-kino.

Sorcerian, but that requires Japanese if you want to play more than the base game (and there is a lot more).
Dinosaur, but that requires Japanese.
Relics is also quite interesting.


There are some other games on there like Ys, Popful Mail and Xanadu, but you can just as easily play those on anything else.
Shame they only have the first Mugen no Shinzou on there, the 2nd is better in every way and is menu operated so it would work fine as well, still it can be found on regular project EGG iirc.

That's a different series made by several of the same people I thought. Compile hearts is a spiritual successor to the defunct compile while Sega somehow bought the legal rights to puyo puyo

It's a remake/reboot with the same general story but new characters since Sega got control of the original cast when they bought Puyo Puyo. In Japan, it's called Sei Madou Monogatari so while it's not strictly speaking the same series it basically is that.

None of them. They're just Japanese PC games. Some JP PC games were made to be entirely in English back ion the day (Sorcerian being one I know off the top of my head) but D4 doesn't do any localization work.

Personally I think you'd be better off with Thexder Neo. The PS3 version even has that feature where you can switch between old and new graphics at the press of a button, sadly this feature is omitted from the PSP version. It's also not crossbuy compatible for some reason.

Had no idea Sorcery Saga was a larger franchise. Always thought of it as yet another one of those weird Vita-exclusive JRPGs.
The collector's edition came with a spoon, plate and a bip. There's a glorious image out there of an anon wearing the bip.

You'll have to read the NPC text, there are scenarios where you'll have to figure things out. You can probably use one of the guides for the IBM PC version, but at that point you might as well just emulate that with a Roland so unless a Switch is all you have I wouldn't recommend it.
