Name a more iconic moment in vidya
At this moment, you already knew you were playing one of the greatest games of all time.

Nah. By the time I got into the castle I was hoping the game was going to get better, I wasn't even optimistic when I got the sword. It did get better but that whole tutorial and prologue section isn't that great. The music and visual effects are cool, sure, but I wasn't having fun playing it.

I can't. It's really beautiful. That soft chirp noise of Zelda speaking to you through telepathy while the screen is all dark and blue and the muffled rain sound can be heard is etched into my memory. This game is full of so much charm, every time I fire it up it feels like a truly living adventure. I think the magazine hype even improved it. Every time I get to the Eastern Palace and meet Sahasrala, it feels like I'm experiencing it again for the first time alongside every adventure-loving brother out there.

The prologue and tutorial are extremely brief and it basically gets you right into the action. It was like the perfect hook, then BAM! you're already in a dungeon.

Compare that to modern Zelda and it bogs down the experience and treats you like a baby

but about that
i think that's a little rude for them to put my cousin on the introduction of the whole video game gettin knocked out
you know. like two hours after that little incident occurred, my cousin called me up on my cell phone, i put it on speaker cause i can't really hold my phone, i got boxin gloves on, you know all the time.
and my cousin told me, you know, the announcer that announces the fights, before everyone gets to start fightin or whatever, he's heavy into cigarettes or whatever, and he was askin the crowd, anybody got a cigarette? you know he was askin everybody, but nobody had a cigarette. so when he finally found one, i guess on the ground or somethin, he said, I FOUND ONE, i need a LIGHT!
so the dude with the blonde hair, that you see on the introduction, he thought he said ROUND ONE, FIGHT! so that's why he punched my cousin, tito. that's his name, tito. he punched my cousin in the face from the very beginning of the game, and someone happened to have a video camera and recorded it, and they thought it would be somethin funny to put it on the beginning of the game, now when my cousin will walk down the street, everybody will be like "ay, ain't you the dude on street fighter that got knocked out?"
and you know he's real embarrassed, but whatever. i bet dude don't wanna see ME, you don't wanna see my left hook, you know? I got a vicious right hand, but you know what? My left is quick too. I got that from Silkk the Shocker.

It's a nice game. But far from perfect. The item navigation is clunky. Link's walking cycle is overanimated and compeltely out of place in the context of the game's story. He's skipping and jiggling like a retard. His hair is stupid. The game lacks sidequests to make the overworld relevant between dungeons. Dungeon themes are basically random. They lack a background story for the reason why they exist and why they are located where they are. The dark hyrule gimmick is basically pointless.
Zelda 2 and LA are much better than LttP in all these aspects. Zelda 2 just has that stupid short sword that ruins it completely. LA is a perfect game.

Anyone else 100% assume that "zelda is your..." meant "sister"? I believed that without questioning it until I found out that other people didn't. Just the way a kid thinks i guess. I suppose it connected to my star wars memories

I always thought it meant "destiny" or something along those lines. Now that your uncle is dead, it's up to you to save Zelda.

That's what we guessed as kids. It's a surprisingly common convergent opinion. Most people weren't on the internet in those days but a lot of people came up with the same assumption when they compared notes. Duane & Brando mentioned it in their Zelda II song.

I dunno if it's the MOST iconic, but this is really great. It has an air of cinematic intensity and drama to it. It's all action and there's very little there in regards to traditional Zelda "puzzles". It might be the best part of the game. Likewise, my second favorite part is probably the raid on Aghanim's Tower which is also all action and drama. I think it says a lot that my LEAST favorite parts of Zelda games are the traditional dungeons. I prefer the overworld exploration and the non-traditional dungeons.
As far as other iconic moments I love the intro to Double Dragon. A gang of thugs slug your girlfriend and carry her off. A 5 second cutscene and you immediately know what you need to be doing. Games don't need any more plot than this.

LttP, OoT and MM all have a very good and memorable start to them. I think the beginning of a game is the most important for a lasting impression, a beginning that isn't just a big waste of time before things actually get going.

If I hadn't seen all 6 Rocky movies, I'd have asked if this was a Rocky reference.
I've seen none of the Creed movies, though, so I'll ask if not being able to hold the phone is a reference to

Just because it's brief doesn't mean it doesn't suck. It's boring, give me a real dungeon instead of a training dungeon. You should
>drop into the world
>find the sword
>wander around a bit while you figure out how to use the sword
>go into a real dungeon with puzzles, secrets, a dungeon boss, etc.
That's what the original game does. For the most part that's what OoT of time does but you can talk to people and practice targeting and swinging the sword if you want to. The legend of skyrim having a stupid long tutorial doesn't make me go back to 1993 when I first played alttp and have more fun doing so.
