If Mario 3's levels weren't so short, I would consider that game the best of the 2D series. Only problem I have with Mario World is how easy it is. Once you master the cape, you can cheese your way through nearly any level, like having a near-infinite P-Wing at any time.

1. mario world has no interesting powerups. mario 3 has statue, raccoon, toad, shoe. mario 3 wins here
2. mario world has basic secrets. mario 3 has so many things that fill you with wonder. the flying ship. white mushroom house. the fact that when you beat castle with suit on, the guy makes a unique comment (PIC RELATED)
3. Mario 3 is this very unique "stage" motif where you can traverse the many layers of the theatre stage. Mario world is just standard.

The feather replaces tanooki, toad is basically worthless, and the shoe appears in exactly one level. Yoshi has the ability to eat things, stomp, fireballs, and flight
