People didn’t associate good games with the studios behind them. Twelve-year-old Timmy didn’t want Jak and Daxter because it had “Naughty Dog” on the cover (yeah, the Crash Bandicoot guys). He just heard from classmates that it was a fun game and wanted to see what the fuss was about. Today’s obsession with studio loyalty feels kind of strange by comparison.

I read PlayStation Magazine and they said Jak was the new game from the Crash guys, a series I loved and bought every entry from. So no, you're wrong. I probably would have bought it either way but "this is from the people who made Crash" is what got me hyped.

I got Godhand at the time solely because it was from the Viewtiful Joe guys

I had a similar thought a few says ago.

No one ever gave a fuck of their favorite movie was Paramount, Touchstone, or Amblin Entertainment, etc, but a24 is the only studio that is creating fans who ignore the director and are excited for what the studio is pumping out.

It's not "studio loyalty".

It's looking at a development house that used to do no wrong and over the years became corrupted by egomaniac jews and coolaid drinking libtards that make preachy games for the esg bucks.
So you look back at their golden days and can't help but be bummed about it.

Naughty Dog used to make games that were pure, unadulterated fun—Jak and Daxter, at least the first one, is a great example. Now, everything they make feels like a movie in video game form, preaching about how revenge is bad or how father daughter stories supposedly give people the ick.

When I was younger, I never really cared who made the games I played. If a game was decent, I’d save up money to buy a copy. No one really knew who Santa Monica Studio was until they made God of War.

Yes, they made that crappy racing one before, but no one cared because it was shit.

I did try buying on studio loyalty and got burned really bad.

After the letdown that was Fallout 4, people waited years for the studio to make a strong comeback, only to get something as bland and uninspired as Starfield. Since its release I’ve lost hope that they’ll ever return to the greatness of Morrowind or Skyrim.

You’re a pretty dumb nigger. Studios had reputations for putting out “X type” of games. When Naughty Dog put out a game, it was highly likely it was going to be extremely polished and well made.

As someone who at one point 20 years ago was a 12 year old Timmy, I can attest as far as 8, and 9 years old I had clear concept of who developers were and could name several at the time, namely capcom, naughty dog, insomniac, rare, id software just to name a few.
