Anyway, this game was legitimately fantastic. Gears 1 felt like a 10/10 late 90s scifi movie, and it has possibly the most satisfying weapons of any game ever made. The game oozed atmosphere and it could be surprisingly tense and unsettling despite the comic book proportions and story. They even somehow managed to make a motley crew of professional wrestlers fighting aliens seem charming and relatable. I have Marcus and Baird's voices burned into my brain. Shame they ruined it all with Gears 2 and onward by turning it into le sadboy faggotry about Dom's wife and borderline slapstick comedy with "THEY'RE USING A GIANT WORM". This game suffers from Halo CE syndrome where the first one was fantastic and had some nuance, but its legacy is stained by the incredibly faggy games that succeeded it.
