It's the dollar store FF5, but with onions. What color is your favorite onion? Favorite job? Best version? Why did the Pixel Remaster suck compared to a game that came out on DS? PR is better than the OG though.

i think i liked PR the best, DS has some cool extras in it and a bit of that retroactive FF11 DNA floating around because of Tanaka returning but the pacing was a bit too much for me. i was surprised how snappy and swift FF3 PR played in comparison

I like it a lot. FF5 is "better" but FF3 feels more sandboxy and open. Like FF1, but with the ability to change jobs on the fly.

>Favorite job
Depends on the version, but Warrior is usually ol' reliable. For NES/PR, Black Mage because instant kill abilities are actually worth a damn. For 3D, either Red Mage, Bard or Scholar.
>Best version
Famicom and 3D have their pros and cons, though Famicom has. PR technically has features of both, but goes too far with the QoL (Arrows being infinite, Dark Knight's self-hurt on Souleater/"Bladeblitz" being removed, etc) and goes against the supposed reason for the PRs in general.
>Why did the Pixel Remaster suck compared to a game that came out on DS?
It's basically the in-between of the NES and 3D versions, which isn't how it was marketed. Dunno about you, but I'd rather play the actual original version or the 3D remake, which does its own thing and still has tweaks that the PR didn't carry over.
>PR is better than the OG though
Technically speaking maybe.

Nope, sorry. I just remember having to change into Toad and Mini a bunch of times and getting lost. If it makes you feel better I don't like any of the old Final Fantasies except 2.

The whole "many of the classes that were useless in the original are still useless now part" is especially egregious. Scholar's useless in the original, but makes mincemeat of any boss with an elemental weakness in the remake, provided you have the respective item.

It's still a pretty subpar remake. Imagine fixing the monster-limit issue in the next remake, FFIV, and then..never fucking correcting it for FFIII in the PSP or PC ports of the DS version. That's just cash-grab laziness.

the monster limit is 3 even in the 2d psp version? that seems like the weirdest part to get lazy about haha. literally all the graphics were overhauled why not just keep the original battle mechanics.

FF3 doesn't really offer that much gameplay freedom compared to FF5. It's pretty linear and there's a lot of times where you're expected to use specific jobs or hit a brick wall progress-wise.

Odds are they were either using a different engine for IV or they had already balanced the game around 3 enemies on-screen, so they'd more or less have to rework 90% of the encounters in the game.
>>11854551
Anon's talking about the port of III on the PSP. Outside of removing the online requirement for Mognet, adding a few extras like the Famicom soundtrack and just removing most of the second screen elements, it's a straight port of the DS version.

Yes

Don't remember having one
>Favorite job?
I played that shit nearly 25 years ago or whenever it was first translated so I don't remember them but I do recall a LOT of jobs becoming useless as the game goes on
>Best version?
I like the OG but appreciate the DS. I've not tried others. I particularly think the 8-bit music is more impactful.
>Why did the Pixel Remaster suck compared to a game that came out on DS?
idklol didn't play it

FDIV3D added a difficulty slider in future versions for people who wanted it to play a little more like FFIV2D, but FFIV gets all the love. If only a 2D rerelease of FFIII happened sooner.

I fucking hate both 2 and 3, only ever played the originals though and never finished either. They are unironically really mediocre games that the Japanese love for no apparent reason. You'd be hard pressed to name a series from the 80s in which the first game is the most enjoyable one but FF is one of those

Do IV's difficulty settings change the encounters outright? Or is it just stats/enemy scripts?
