I played the original a long time ago, never beat it. Is the remake faithful enough?

It's alright if you ignore the backer audio logs and that one lesbian rant.

Play the Original and if you find it too hard, just lower the difficulty. Don't let people online tell you that you should play on hard so you can get worthless gamer e-cred (which you can easily lie about).

I haven't played the remake, but to me it just looks terrible so I don't want to play it. I'd say play the original first and then if you want check out the remake.

It's as faithful as the RE 2 remakes, which is to say "In the Spirit of". On the whole of it it loses much of what made the original memorable in exchange for an updated gamefeel.
Both are valid, though I think you should play the OG (or even the Enhanced Original) first so you can see for yourself how faithful it is, and I think you do too otherwise you wouldn't ask /vr/ you'd ask /v/.

The remake really drops the ball on the final level. It's clear they were just rushing it out the door at that point. They also redid SHODANs lines which aren't as strong IMO.
The original is a slog for the first 2 levels but then picks up once SHODAN gets involved. It took me a few tries to get into it, but once I did I was hooked.
