>changes the world by doing things never done before in the FPS genre
i like how it has so many of the things and characters and tropes from Iain. M Banks books and Alien$
What is this? I've never played it before. Was it on GameCube?
>>11856269Yeah I think that's part of that Halovania genre in which you explore and backtrack
i like how it has so many of the things and characters and tropes from Iain M. Banks books and Alien$
These guys made destiny so reputation dunked on
>>11856247 (OP)What did it do besides be really really gay?
Okay, I'll bite. What did it do that that was never done before?
>It evolved combat!
>It just did, ok? don't ask me how!
any reason i shouldn't pay $9.99 + tax for Master Chief Collection?
>>11856280>>11856298Halo has Megg. Other games don't have Megg.
>>11856274it also has roguelike elements so it can take months irl to reach objectives on the far side of the ring if you get unlucky with vehicle spawns
>>11856247 (OP)>changes the world by doing things never done before in the FPS genreIf you have never played any fps before
Thanks to this thing many FPSes went from having weapon selections/wheels to doing the "you can only hold two weapons at a time" nonsense.
Also the regenerating health.
>>11856357>badass prisoner female protaghot
>you can also play as a dude, the chick is just the defaultwhy would you rather play as a guy and hear his moaning sounds when jumping or getting hurt, are you gay?
Things that are cool about Halo
1) Graphics don't look pixely
2) Dynamic lighting and glowies look good
3) Some of the aliens are kinda hot
>>11856247 (OP)Stupid people think Halo revolutionized the FPS genre because they're dudebros whose last game before it was 007 Goldeneye. Compared to that yes it's a huge step up.
>>11856428>dudebrosI miss dudebros. We were too hard on them.
>>11856298NTA but I remember it being innovative for
>Shields that recharge over health>2 Gun System>Vehicle combatI don't know if other games had the system before, I can't remember unreal having vehicles till after HALO, but a lot of companies started copying part of Halo. Socom and Timesplitters 3 are very vehicle heavy I feel as a result of Halo
>>11856428What were the games with a 2 gun system, vehicles in multi-player and rechargeable health as opposed to health meter before halo?
This game was awesome and honestly it completely shits on any other FPS that came out at the time. Had tons of fun with it. Although I wasn't a big fan of the sequels.
>>11856316You have to make a microsoft account for whatever reason to play the game but I'd say it's worth it if you're interested in modding the game. A few fun mods for CE are around. But I wouldn't get it if you don't want to create an account as I understand that's annoying for some people.
>>11856450>2 gun system Shitty mechanic for consolebabbys
>vehicles in MPTribes
>recharging health Faceball 2000
>>11856459can i just run a secret command to skip the account like i do when i install Windows 11?
>>11856536I unfortunately don't know. I just made an outlook email throw-away and signed up with that. dumped the email name and password into a txt file so i can remember it if i ever get signed out of it, though.
>>11856462>2 gun system>Shitty mechanic for consolebabbysAnd? It's still the dominant in FPS and the question was "how did Halo revolutionize FPS". This is /vr/, it's a console heavy board tryhard zoomie, better go back to /v/
>vehicles in MP>TribesFirst it's Starseige: Tribes larp faggot, Secondly other games were following Starseige: Tribes when adding vehicles into multi-player.
>recharging health>Faceball 2000Once again, Halo was popular and that made other devices copy it's formula. They weren't adopting recharging health because of faceball 2000.
So OP asked
>what did Halo do that had never been done before? So we can at least agree the 2 gun function started there.
>>11856553you should be using password manager baka
mine is the entirely offline passwordstore.org because i'm competent with security/backups
>>11856580Thanks for the concern but I can't be bothered with that shit personally. I haven't gotten hacked or whatever since I always double check whatever I download. Still, appreciate the concern. Thanks.
>>11856310Neat enemy ai and cool set pieces, that's it really and it was all they needed.
>>11856445>>2 Gun System
Counter-Strike.
>>Vehicle combatShadow Warrior, GoldenEye, and Perfect Dark had drivable vehicles.
>>11857163>Shadow Warrior, GoldenEye, and Perfect Dark had drivable vehicles.I mean kinda. GoldenEye had the tank in one level that kinda sucked to control. Not in multiplayer. Perfect Dark also didn't have vehicles in multiplayer and the hoverbike wasn't all that interesting.
>>11857204True, Halo showed us how to do all of that stuff right.
>>11856278I never played Destiny but it looks like an ultra generic corporate version of Halo stripped of any soul.
>>11856445>Socom and Timesplitters 3 are very vehicle heavy I feel as a result of HaloVehicles suck so hard in every shooter besides Halo. I wish other games didn't try copying it.

>>11857537>Marty told 343 that nobody at Bungie would help themI thought this was the opposite, that 343/Microsoft specifically forbade any of their employees to ask for help from any Bungie devs that didn't come over with the franchise handover..
>>11857540I have an Xbox and halo 1/2. Yeah, I'm an American and I like hotdogs and hamburgers just fine. I'm what some would call a "white trash" acolyte. Halo saved my life from heroin. I was shooting up my dick in 7/11 bathrooms. Then I played halo and I immediately started to drink mountain dew. I drank so much dew and played so much halo, I had no more time for heroin, but I did make time for a burger and/or hotdog every so often. In those times we used to call black folks jigaboos. My father was a jigaboo, but only 1/4th, which was an important distinction in those days. You see, it's the kind of distinction between doom guy and master Chief. Same ball park, different purpose. Same grease, different pan. Same beach, different sand. Same crease, different pants.
>>11856576A 2 weapon limit is no "system" or "function". It was made this way for you to play your first FPS ever on a gamepad.
>Muh starsiege Ackshually its Halo Combat Evolved so when you dont type it out completely every time you are a 11 year old zoomer girlie.
Eric Nylund wrote Halo's backstory/lore (Halsey, Spartans, Reach, Onyx, Blue Team) in 7 weeks while Joe Staten wrote CE/H2 and Contact Harvest (Chief, Cortana, Captain Keyes, Sgt Johsnon, Covenant lore/mythos). Joe Staten also supervised Halo 3 and Halo Wars for any lore and continuity errors.
Marty confirmed that after Halo 2 released, Joe Staten and Marcus Lehto had a fight over Arbiter, so Joe left Halo 3 to write Contact Harvest while a committee of writers wrote Halo 3 and Reach. Joe worked on prequels: Contact Harvest, Wars, ODST.
Reach was written by Marcus Lehto and Rob McLees using "Bungie Lore" (Noble Team is better than Chief because they take off their helmets to show that they are human, says that Reach had a more compelling story than CE-3). Lehto never cared about muh blue team because he wanted to create his own SPARTAN team.
Frankie wanted the forerunners to be a separate species from humans. He contracted Greg Bear to write the Forerunner trilogy of books made to explain this in as many ways as possible to avoid any confusion. Then the lead writer of halo 4 decided to hijack the project to tell a story about dementia, compressing the forerunner saga lore into a single exposition heavy cutscene.
Frankie intended Didact to be the final boss of the Halo Sequels
Bonnie Ross wanted 343 to create 40 years of Halo games and turn Halo into a Star Wars EU transmedia franchise
Frankie hired different writers for everything.
>Greg Bear
Forerunner Saga
>Karen Travis
Kilo Five
>Chris Schlerf
Halo 4
>Brian Reed
Spartan Ops, Halo Escalation and Halo 5
343's Halo foundation was Kilo 5 trainwreck by Karen Traviss, the writer behind the Republic Commando novels and known for her obsession with Mandos being the bestest most honorable warrior culture in the galaxy who everyone look up to, and with the Jedi being evil baby kidnapping monsters. And then apparently she did the same thing with Halo and Gears of War novels
>>11857558Marcus Lehto apologized to 343 for not giving them any documentations on how to use Bungie's engine
>Most people will never know what a huge accomplishment Halo 4 really was. The whole time we were building it we had to assemble a giant team of egos, working on crazy tech nobody could talk to the creators about, while the Internet kept telling us we would fail.>Marcus LehtoI feel horrible that you were handed our engine with absolutely no documentation.

>>118564452 guns and shields weren't it, plenty of games had that. Now you do have a point with the vehicles, I genuinely can not think of a shooter that had vehicles at least in anyway similar to Halo. Both Battlefield and UT added them almost certainly as a direct result of Halo.
>>11857163You and I both know you are reaching far for that one. The "vehicles" in those games are barely vehicles.

OP here. It appears I somehow posted the wrong image. My apologies.
listen Halo is fucking amazing but it started a trend in shooters that I really don't like of limiting your arsenal and slowing down the game play.
