Are there any pc-98 games worth playing outside the old touhous and policenauts? Untranslated is fine too, I'm looking for more moonrune practice. Princess Maker 2 was fun to mess around with, but I'm not that big into sims

A lovely version of Popful Mail. You'll get good j-practice too. Unlike the Sega CD version there are clues and event triggers that take you back to previous areas

Did the PC98 ever have an adapter to use a standard AT or PS/2 keyboard? Playing Touhou with the standard PC98 arrow keys looks like it'd be painful.

I personally haven't posted it in quite a while though.

Dragon Master Silk I & II were fun (and not actual porn if that is an issue), but most RPGs on it regardless of rating aren't ambitious in their game design.

>Dragon Master Silk I & II were fun
First one is pretty barebone as a dungeon RPG and is mostly carried by the art and bosses' skits. The sequel improves on everything.

I should ask a translator to translate the story text and fix the rest.

46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinka Ron is worthy of a playthrough for the concept alone (it's fairly underwhelming as a JRPG).

I guess I'm looking for more narrative focused stuff - rpgs, adventure games, vn's if you count those. I wouldn't say no to good platformers or shooters though (especially if cute girls are involved)

I know coming here for advice is a fool's errand, but I thought I might as well, since you're the only other group of people I know that care about retro games who aren't totally gay.

I'm going to commission an artist to create a banner for my game store. I'm taking a big huge retarded risk with this because the startup is from my inheritance and my current stock is just my collection. I really need this to work out.

I thought of doing an Adventure of Link style thing, but it just feels played out.

What kind of game reference would make you want to come in a game store if you saw it on a sign?

The latest version is on vector.co.jp under MS-DOS. https://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dos/game/se093453.html

You'd need to copy it to your PC-98 HDD. I haven't made a self-booter, but I have an installed MS-DOS HDD with extensions and the game on it. Should also include the original lzh archive.

There's currently an active translation for Sword World PC. There's a bunch of content in this JRPG that adapts the sources TTRPG's rules. Something like close to 60+ scenarios, each with the potential for multiple outcomes.

Right now, the Translation is in the testing phase and is actively recruiting testers.

I also believe you can carry over your character from this game to the Lodoss PC-98 game as well! Or is it the other way around, I dunno...

That seems cool, I'm interested in helping out translation efforts in the long run and this sounds like a great way to get started

Also, man I forgot all the little extra stuff involved in running emulators for computers. I spent way longer than I'd like to admit trying to run a CD with just a ccd file when it also needed an img and sub file in the same folder
