Post some obscure games

webm is iS – internal section, one of the lesser known PS1 experiments by Squaresoft. It was Rez before Rez. Impressive looking for a ps1 game (480i, 60fps) despite the simple graphics, it has aged very well.

sky destroyer is a really fun game that lets you gun down round eyes and bomb subs with colorful explosions should the torpedoes connect

Oh FUCK, is this that PS1 one where you play the chick who’s always getting into disasters? Has it ever been translated? I’d love to play it.

Game is Suzuki Bakuhatsu. Its a puzzle game about defusing bombs that you inexplicably find in random objects. Its one of my favorite PlayStation games. The amount of creativity on display in every level is astounding. No English translation, but its 99% playable without being able to read Japanese. The only thing you might struggle with due to the language barrier is knowing which wire to cut at the end of some levels, but you can get around that by either save stating before each wire, machine translating the various hints scattered throughout the levels, or by gung-hoing it and just guessing.

>iS – internal section
Note that if you use the translation fanhack for that game it was badly made and will make most modern emulators (and likely real hardware) crash. Apparently the hack patches the needed data, but not the EEC data, leaving the game a mess of read errors to anything that simulates the drive correctly. You will need to use a tool that will scan your hacked image and basically re-do the error correcting information to properly patch it such as ECCRegen.

Oh nice, the ones on RHDN were never updated. Though I ran into this problem before this fix was uploaded but nice to see it's been updated now.

Which patches does this apply though? The original romhack came in three pieces that patched three different things, and one of them just simply disables a feature to let you use your own music CDs because you would not have been able to do that with emulators or without a modchip at the time. Nowadays though it would be pointless to install that part of the patch.

From the readme of the original hack:

>iS - Internal Section Warning.ppf - This is a health and safety warning shown before the game.
>iS - Internal Section Text.ppf - This is the text system, like the save menu, in english.
>iS - Internal Section Graphic.ppf - This is for the Music Selection screen. Removes a graphic.

>Apply all 3 patches to the same image, in any order. Applying twice won't hurt anything. Applying the 'Undo patch data' will restore whichever edited element you want to it's original form. Applying the undo data twice also won't hurt anything.

>On the 'Music Selection' screen, you can switch out the disk for a music cd of your choice and have that going while you play. The reason this isn't on there is because the image is a raw image of a type I was unable to edit reliably, or even load in an editor correctly. It's also because the message essentially tells you that you can use your own Music CD, which you can't if you burn this to a CD-R. It won't let you swap the CD-R back in after you're done without a modchip.

So I don't see the point in applying the "Graphic" hack anymore as it just disables an option that modern emulators/modded systems/ODEs would be able to use this just fine. Any idea which of these three this new patch applies?

Baldr force exe on Dreamcast. Using machine translation is good enough to get through the game and is on some cases getting bready gud. The whole baldr series is legit. Baldr force exe on DC, baldr bullet equilibrium on PS2, baldr bullet of PC. All great 2d mech combat and customizability. Its crazy it never got an English adaptation. It's everything I wanted assault suit games to play like, not that I hate them. I love them. It's just as a kid I wanted a more snappy fast paced mech game and this is pretty much how I imagined it. It's very story heavy, feel free to skip to the action.

It always surprises me that "le hidden germ" seekers are ignorant of the remake of Valkyrie no Boken in Namco Anthology 2 on PS1.

Damn that's like MGMT's video clip for When You Die. Wonder if the people who made these had some crazy psychedelic experience inspire this. Closest I've felt was LSA.
