It's time!!! Time to bicker and squabble like children over a dead 90's franchise that's never coming back! :)

Banjo-Tooie wouldn't be too big or too overcomplicated if they just sped up the damn game (in the sense of literally moving faster, and also massively trimming down on of a bunch of small bullshit that clearly just wastes the player's time) if they redesigned a few areas so you're not as likely to get lost/confused, and if they gave you SOME indication as to what you can/can't do right now without coming back. The levels at their current size wouldn't be too big if you polished them up a bit. It'd be a perfectly fine game in that case, but yeah it's really fucking rough to replay Banjo-Tooie when holy shit EVERYTHING takes wa longer than it needs to take for no good reason.

I like Jolly roger's vibe but like most of Tooie it still sucks to actually play

Bubblegloop is the weakest of Kazooie's levels but it's still leagues ahead of any of Tooie's.

There honestly just isn't enough real platforming in these games. I don't dislike BK, I play through it probably once every 2 years. But the more I revisit it, the more I'm aware that every level is kind of just an amusement park rather than spaces for interesting, challenging gameplay.

Wheres Mad Monster Mansion?

For me, its
Good levels:
>Click Clock Wood
>Rusty Bucket Bay
>Treasure Trove Cove
>Freezeezy Peak
> Mad Monster Mansion
>Bubblegloop Swamp
Bad levels:
>Mumbo's Mountain
>Clanker's Cavern
>Gobi's Valley

Mumbos is too simple, Clankers has too much water and Gobis is just boring.

The beach, the ant hill one, the desert, and the time/seasonal tree were all good. I liked the swamp, but it was a bit tedious. I did not like the haunted mansion stage. I barely remember anything that happens on the snowman stage or the ship stage. The scary shark level I mostly avoided because of my fear of swimming and fish.
Oh and I remember hating the final stage. Super tedious.

No one knows. Mayahem and Witchy were also designed for the first game. It's entirely possible they designed these levels but since the levels were never built, they never actually reached the point where they decided WHERE they would go or what the level order was gonna be.

That thing about the lava room in Grunty's Lair being originally for the cut lava world isn't actually true btw. I know we all want it to be true, but Gregg said it was unrelated. But DESU I have a feeling they probably never reached the phase where they decided where lava world would go, and if they never cut the level I think they WOULD have put it/the painting for it there retroactively. Would be fucking weird if they didn't.

IF Gobi's dialogue in Click Clock is there because they forgot to change it, rather than as a cheeky nod to the cut level, then that would mean lava was somewhere after Click Clock. I always thought Mine could have something to do with this room in Grunty's Lair, but it's a BIG stretch I'm just pulling out of my ass. But it has a little bit of a crystal aesthetic and looks fairly similar to Waterfall Cavern in Mine

I don't believe it's known. There's no obvious clues either.

If I had to guess, maybe the Stony transformation was originally intended for here? Always felt a tad random as Mayahem's transformation. It would make sense as to why Mayahem and the Hailfire colosseum are linked in Tooie if Gregg was thinking "well I want the stone guy in the lava area like I originally intended, but we already have a snowball on the ice side so I'll just have him travel in from a different level". A lil stone guy would be immune to lava after all.

Remember Mumbo's power is letting you control a giant kicking statue. Or the shooting fps boss also being a statue...

I don't see how people can't love Freezeezy Peak. The Christmas atmosphere, the giant snowman, the sled race + the cool as fuck sled ramp, flying around (and the first place to unlock the missile dive), the ice key sneak peak, the top tier music, etc. There's so much good shit about it. The only downside was probably the Walrus transformation being kind of lame.

I'm normally someone who loves a good gruelling difficulty challenge, and who can appreciate both the smells of toxic fluids and the sights of rust and brick. But. I think I'm in love with the idea of RBB, more than the actual level itself.

RBB totally is hard when you're a new player, but when you know the ropes genuinely the entire level is like, really easy quite honestly, except for the engine room (which is only hard cuz the physics of the various engine parts are kinda bullshit, and Banjo lacks a good platforming moveset).
Speaking of which I totally love the challenge it presents and how it's the most difficult thing in the game, but c'mon. When you die in that room it's often not because YOU messed up or did anything wrong, it's cuz the controls/physics were fucky. And there's NO chance to recover from your mistake, if you make the tiniest slip-up it's over. It's a cheap death. Which makes victory of the room not entirely satisfying cuz you feel as if the outcome wasn't completely in your control. I want to feel like *I* conquered something, not that my attempt just happened to randomly work this time.

Beyond that I hope a remake of the game makes the level a bit larger and more complex cuz I'm left feeling unsatisfied desu. It's just a big rectangle. I know the N64 couldn't really do more than this but I would like the level quite a lot more if there was......a small beach. A couple side alleyways. A construction zone. Literally anything to make the lame rectangular perimeter more interesting. I want RBB to be my favorite world but it needs some added complexity, especially cuz in hindsight Tooie makes it look very quaint indeed.

DK is the best of the "trilogy" because it strikes a happy medium between the sandbox sized levels of BK and gigantic levels of Tooie. I love Tooie warts and all because that game truly feels like a grand interconnected adventure larger than the sum of its parts with the worst part being the rushed ending. >>11858062 This anon gets it. DK and especially Tooie are designed around puzzle set pieces that slowly unfold and reward exploration. That's why Grunty Industries is consistently in people's top picks. It's built around unraveling a puzzle box of a level. The complaint about barrel switching is wildly overblown and implies that anytime you see a different colored banana you MUST follow that path rather than just coming back to it later. I'm convinced people fundamentally misunderstand what makes these games so special. I wish modern 3D platformer revival games took more inspiration from Rareware.
