Were the Scooby Doo games from this gen really as bad as people say?

Night of 100 Frights for Gamecube was the only one I had and it was a decently serviceable platformer that had a surprising amount of effort put into it to try evoking the feeling of the show. Stuff like the quiet laugh track cutting in when you took damage, the music making heavy use of the main theme's motifs and instrumental choices ( https://youtu.be/C2WcRGhCw_4 ), it using a bunch of classic monsters for bosses. There was an unlockable gallery in the basement that had synopses of each episode the random enemies and bosses were taken from. The main villain was voiced by Tim Curry. There was real work put into it, more than most licensed games of the era at least.

I wouldn't say they're bad... but Cyber Chase (PS1) is better than all of them for sure.

Night of 100 Frights is geniunely a great game, had a lot of fun with that game and I played it for the first time a few years ago so it's not nostalgia, also nails the Scooby-Doo charm to a perfect degree.
Didn't play Unmasked, Mystery Mayhem or the Swamp Monster one, heard they're not on the same quality as 100 Frights.

unmasked was a stinky if painfully average platformer
pic related is a real stinker from that time, and taught me what exactly shovelware was.

It's a shame that even having proper controls in the DS they never made another game like the one on the Megadrive or at least a port.

It's a fun platformer by the guy who made Jersey Devil, it's just common so maybe it sold more copies? Mystery Mayhem filters people a bit more imo

If you knew how to pick games the DS was kino
I never bought shovelware with my chores money. TV and movie games were generally a no-no for my hard earned cash

anon who called it painfully average
looking back on youtube vids, it looks fine, just not like anything too special. i did surprisingly finish it, but i can't recall too much from it other than scooby being able to do special stuff with a cape and the last level being a return to the first. is there something that made the game stick out?

Classic creep capers on gbc is good. It's more like an old school adventure game. Feels like the show

I've heard people like all 3 of them, I never tried them but isn't one an unashamed Spyro clone? There's worse things to imitate I suppose. Still as far as Dogformers go, can't beat Frontier.
