IMHO Sonic Advance 1 is the most "classic" feeling Sonic that you can get on the go. It hits everything just right from the old games. The philosophy of learning a level inside and out so you can go fast as fuck on replays is real. Special stages are eh but that's okay. Sonic Advance 2 fucked themselves by using the speed break mechanic as a crutch instead of designing more interesting levels, and I've never played Sonic Advance 3.

Advance 1 feels like a more unique redo of Pocket Adventure, but I hated the "Angel Island" and Egg Rocket Zones.
Advance 2 is when they really overdid it on the Emerald requirements, and it changed the gameplay to prototypical Rush/boost, lackluster bosses.
Advance 3 is more like Chaotix 2 and is a far better game, Special Stage requirements are still ass though and hubs were unnecessary and shouldn't be confusing to navigate.

2 is the only one of these that actually felt like it was actually trying to improve upon the 2d sonic gameplay despite all its flaws so it's the only one that stuck out to me worth playing. the other 2 just felt like they simply exist to have sonic games on the gba.

Advance 1 constantly feels like you have weights strapped to your legs, it's so fucking painful and slow just to get a run going in a way the classics never did.
If the decomps (whenever they get finished) ever include ACTUAL classic physics as a mod, it'd be way better for sure, but the actual physics ruin the game for me. I really don't know how people tolerate it.

The first Advance game was the other high scoring 2D Sonic game until Mania got it's expansion, being tied with it.
The Advance 2 decomp exist because zoomers like to glaze it's graphical presentation over other Dimps Sonic games.

I'll never get the idea of why they needed to make getting the full ending such an autistic chore.
Getting all the Emeralds with one character should be enough and hopefully not making replaying the special stages so annoying.

It doesn't make getting them fun.

1 feels more like a proper Sonic game, 2 and 3 feels like they tried to be too cute and ended up making thing more unnecesarily convoluted.

Marry, kill, fuck
1 was a good game with good music and complete ideas, and had Tiny Chao Garden. Very replayable. You can go so damn fast that the screen can't catch up. A lot of cool original level ideas. Farming money to feed chao is an experience I'm not trading for the other two. Ice Mountain is one of the better things I've heard on GBA despite being such an early release.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDehV_E1bS0
3 had some interesting ideas. Hubworlds are comfy if a little weird, music is pretty good. Collecting chao is controversial but I thought it gave the game an interesting reason to play the levels in different ways, and you only have to collect them once. The game and//or manual should have done a better job of explaining how special stage access worked. I liked the robot story. The levels can be cramped and platforming heavy, but it's an enjoyable challenge. First zone is kinda lame. Partner moves just felt like a cheat. The hub and chao system subtly discourage replaying the game.
2 is a mess, it promises speed to the extent even the level-end and bosses are running, but doesn't often let you enjoy it. Sky Canyon halts the fun harder than Marble Zone ever could in its wildest memes, what a filter. Special stage system is fucked, the special stages themselves are stupid, and you have to do everything for every attempt. Game makes you do way too much work to unlock the chao garden among other things. I like the idea of a map but it made everything seem sort of fake like a theme park. Cream is OP and lame, sorry creambros. The only thing I enjoy replaying is the boss rush on the final stage, which is admittedly cool. Seriously the special stages can fuck off.

Advance 1 is just a Sonic 2 retread, Amy is neat but that's all.
Advance 2 has some good ideas but the level design being borderline randomized on what path you have to pick, and the only actual way being with the SP rings sucks
Advance 3 is like a better version of Chaotix, very fun, and the different character combos are fresh and cool. So that one.

SA1 is kind of a bland and lesser mix of SonicMD1&2. SA2 is a "shitty hold right to win, memorize when to press jump" pos with terrible bosses. SA3 actually has ambitious ideas but lack the polish to really make it float (also terrible physics for some reason).

SA1 is by default the least offensive.

1>2>3. 1 is perfectly well made. The worst thing I have to say about it is that I don't like how the special stages are in specific locations since exploration has never been one of Sonic's strongest aspects.
2 is bullshit. The game seems like it was designed on the idea that Sonic is too easy but their solution to the problem was to just throw bullshit at the player. Getting the special stages is the worst possible idea they could've come up with, every boss being a running boss is annoying with that insta-kill one being the worst offender.
3 had some neat ideas with the partner system and overall tones down the negatives from 2 but it still had a fair amount of bullshit that relied more on memorization.

1 is a Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure reimagining.

3 is like a Knuckles' Chaotix sequel disguised as a Sonic Battle sequel.

Because she explicitly exists because Team Rose had a Speed and Power character, but they couldn't think of any other Sonic characters who fly. So they just threw together a new one. That's why she very rarely appears after that unless the game is really going out of their way to use as many Sonic characters as they can.

1 felt like a classic in a dimps-way and i like.

2 was my favorite by far. It's stupid fun when you learn the levels, the level design was fucking great. Big flaw was getting the special stages and unlock Amy. Hot Crater, best zone.

3's level design was a mess, it is like they tried mixed CD+Classic with the occasional team-routes in it, and the result sometimes wasnt good at all. Ocean Base is prolly one of the zones i hate the most in any Sonic game, that level design isnt good, it should never have been the 3rd zone of the game and has their own badnik trio like Metropolis. Really, having an octo that spits oil and that oil stays in the middle of the air? Really?
Chaos Angel act 3 was a mistake.
The ending was nice tho after what happened in Battle

Advance 2 is one of the only instances of a Sonic game mostly having good bosses. Each of them has a unique way to play more aggressively, like making use of the terrain on the ice one to hit it without the platform, rolling on the hammer one for multiple hits, or being more risk-taking with the platforming of the saw one. The later stages also have careful enemy placement, with a lot of them being made to be difficult to avoid getting sniped by and usually residing in sections with difficult to navigate terrain, meaning you have to pay attention more than usual. The amount of paths you have to traverse to get all SP Rings per stage is nice as well, and the game as a whole challenging the player more is appreciated, it reminds me of the Mega Man Zero games in that regard. The rest are nice too, but Advance 1 appeals more to people who dislike games like Advance 2, as it's more casual and sometimes less interesting (Angel Island is a filler stage).

No, and in fact, he might be the straightest man in the franchise besides prebootArchieSonic. Chicks dig smart cuties.

There's a theory running around that Sega's full of shit. The original Sonic Heroes entered development in early 2002 - Sonic X's initial pilot was allegedly made in 2001 and already had Cream and "Chao" (Cheese).
