I discovered the Toxic + Leech Seed glitch on my own as a kid, and Venusaur has been my favorite of the three ever since.

>>11859280
Venusaur is only really bad against Blaine. Status is king in Gen 1 and Bulbasaur is the status starter.
Razor Leaf / Leech Seed / Toxic / Sleep Powder is a really easy moveset to get and gives Venusaur even odds or better against anything that isn't both faster than it AND has a super-effective move.
80 base speed is solid, 80/83/100 for bulk is solid too, and Razor Leaf always crits coming off of 100 Special. It even has 82 attack if you want to get funky with Swords Dance.

Squirtle's hardest fight in the game is probably Lt. Surge.

Charmander is great early game, there's lots of bugs for him to burn.
>muh Brock
You can easily beat Brock with just Ember. Geodude and Onix have garbage Special and no rock moves.
>muh Misty
By that point you should have more Pokemon to use. If you're trying to solo the game with your starter than that's on you for doing a self-imposed challenge.

never thought about it, but i literally never have ever even thought of putting a firemon on my team, in any pokeyman game ever, and i think the pitiful selection in RBY is why

blue was so clearly the better version, its not even funny

>magmar
>victreebell
>pinsir

certainly the version you want if you wanna even try and make a non-charizard fire mon work. magmar is too late to matter, but ninetales is ok. i guess. btfos arcanine, which is actual fucking trash lol just dont evolve it till like lvl 50 bro wtf r u retarded?. what an infuriatingly designed mon

wtf could venasaur possibly do in that tier? admittedly havent played that tier in a long time, but wat?
whats it doing? OHKOing rhydon? ok, but it gets btfo by almost everyone else who youre definitely GONNA see. jynx, zam, egg, starmie, zapdos etc
toxic + leech seed cheese? but no ones ever gonna be stupid enough let you actually get that off tho
i cant see where it would be better than just using a better grass mon like victreebell or even eggy with megadrain, if youre that desperate to clown rhydon

It's basically a faster eggy with sword Dance and body slam but with crippling weakness.
What you do with Venusaur is basically put something to sleep and step Sword Dance to cripple something with either Body Slam or Hyper Beam once you're boosted, then you Razor Leaf anything weak to it.

Gen 1 already tried to appeal to girls with Clefairy, it was intended to be the flagship "cutemon". Pikachu took that over though, and also was designed by a woman if that matters.
Gen 2's problem was that every new pokemon had to be toyetic, be easier to be turned into toys and merchandise. Sugimori said as much himself and wanted to bring back more kaiju, monstrous cool mons
