I've set up multiple different Gen 1+2 playthroughs, made a ton of custom graphics, made up different challenges the players could do for cool rewards, set up tournaments where everyone's Pokemon levels are synced up...I even offer to convert and transfer their Pokemon from Gen 1/2 to Gen 3, but it always kind of fizzles out when people get busy with work. I mean, I get it, I work 45 to 50 hours a week too, but I think what I'm offering is fun enough to squeak out an hour into.

Anons, if you were able to participate, would you? Why, or why not?

I've seen and been a part of a few of these kinds of things among friends, and I think they're a good way to liven up a playthrough of a game you're already very familiar with. But I only have experience with 2-3 people. I can only imagine the kind of delays you'd be dealing with, waiting on 4 peoples' schedules to align.

What I'm not sure about is why the players in your image are averaging 14 and a half hours at badge 2. That's a 2 hour investment if you're taking your time.

Yeah, the logistics are definitely a nightmare. I kept finding it got to the point where I felt like I had to ask for them to play, and at that point, I'm just nagging them, and no one likes that. The first playthrough died because one player didn't like the Game Boy I lent them to play on, and refused to buy their own. The second one died because two players had no motivation to continue - but the other player, a zoomer, was hyper motivated. Beat the Elite 4 and kept running it over and over to make their team stronger for a battle that was never going to come. That really bummed me out for them.

And yeah. For some reason, they all wanted to grind at that point?

Sounds fun, would be more fun in gen 2 if you could use the trainer house properly in emulators and very fun in gen 3 with secret bases and record mixing
>>11859604
They are probably using turbo on the emulator

Oh yeah that really sucks, especially for the kid.
I'm in the "fortunate" situation of being in at least one community with a majority of people who enjoy playing Pokemon. So, even if it takes a few months off and on, we typically complete the run.

That would be awesome, dude. I wish I had friends that did stuff like that. I would be the guy grindin' shit out "to be the very best, no one ever was". Now that I think about it... kind of grim lyrics after hearing the story of The Little Zoomer That Could, here >>11859621. It would be interesting to see how my OG team would do against a bunch of retards on /vr/.

Hi, OP here. A coordinated playthrough is one in which we are all playing generally at the same time. We don't necessarily have to be at the same points, but we would try to coordinate progress to a light degree, such as checking on which badges everyone has.

>>11861238
I would be interested, I may start up a discord for it eventually. I'd have to regather materials and prepare, but if there's enough interest, I'm more than happy to coordinate.

>>11861793
Sure! I would do weekly little events that rotated. Sometimes they would be this, where I'd ask them to take a photo using their phone of specific Pokemon. Other times, it might be a battle that people can try out against a team based off a character from the anime. Regardless, there were always prizes.

I had wanted to do a big tournament after every gym badge to see how everyone was doing and keep it competitive, but after two tries, I think maybe that's not the best idea. Maybe every 4 badges or so, and then one big battle at the end might be better? I'm not sure.

Either way, every single battle we would do, I would level sync everyone to level 50, and then conduct battles on Stadium. The winners would get ingame money added to their file, Poke Balls, vitamins, TMs, and the like. I would also hold special Pokemon lotteries where enough participation in events I held would grant a chance to spin for an event Pokemon, based off real event Pokemon distributed in Japanese and English events.

I think the stuff like your image are better ideas (more likely for me to participate) than a bunch of battles where you have to coordinate with other people. maybe try one battle at the end or something.

Nice times, enjoyed customizing cards there.

OP, I admire your commitment and creativity. This sounds like something I’d love and be obsessive about as a kid but now as an adult I’m not sure I could find the time.
I’d love to try it, it genuinely sounds delightful but I’m afraid it would probably end with me stopping and not returning to it after one weekend.

Not OP, but when I've done it we would play to a milestone, like a badge, and then battle with each other (usually through showdown, because it's easier to set up than netplay).

When interest started to die down, we'd do prizes. Like 1st place gets a TM, 2nd gets an Ultra Ball, 3rd gets a couple Super Potions or something.
A few times, we even had players compete for a special Pokemon. Either a version exclusive depending on their game, a generic rare/shiny Pokemon, or one with a unique move.

Thats interesting. But how is it played, emulator? I normally like using fast forward for pokemon games, only ever stopping for the battles. Also why gen I and not later (retro) gens. Arent the teams more likely to be repeated across players if you limit the pokemons to gen I?

You can play the game any way you want. Even if you want players to fight each other, just use Showdown for that part since you can configure your team to match what you have.

I'd be down for this, I've been wanting to play pokemon for a few months anyway.
Pokemon isn't exactly a time intensive game so time shouldn't really be an issue for me. If we can even get 4 people playing along it'd be fun, just let me know where we're coordinating.
