After 30 years, I am finally giving this a chance. What am I in for?
Both overrated and overhated. Great atmosphere, a bit underwhelming gameplay. Just don't get your hopes too high and enjoy the vibe
>>11859601 (OP)Its just your run of the mill JRPG with quirky themes.
>>11859816ha ha no one play this games
>>11859601 (OP)Is dogshit, only beloved by weirdos but somehow hated by dudebros.
>>11859601 (OP)Don't listen to the haters and ignore the excesses of the fanbase. It is truly one of the most SOVLFUL games of all time. I don't think the gameplay is quite as bad as people claim it is either. Take your time through the game, talk to every NPC, don't be afraid to use your items, bask in the atmosphere.
>>11859601 (OP)An alright game with a decent bit of charm. Nothing too amazing but its good.
>>11859601 (OP)I've tried it multiple times and I can't get into it. It's so boring. And I really like RPGs.
a jrpg experience so generic you might mistake it for some 12 year old's first rpgmaker game
>>11859601 (OP)pastel reboot of MOTHER, but ultimately worth playing.
i like it but i played it when i was 10
Surprised to see all the hate, I hope you all are being ironic, cause I consider this game to be a bit of a hidden gem.
My advice would be to take your time, talk to NPCs, enjoy the music, do a little grinding to see what new enemies or attacks pop up. The item system will be annoying, but just go with it. Get a PDF of the guide, you won't need it, but it has a lot of flavor.
A funny, quirky game with a lot of soul. It won't blow your mind but you'll enjoy it.
>>11859601 (OP)An okay DQ clone with some quirky humor.
>>11859601 (OP)This game was especially good when it came out before the autistic faggots were ruining it. I completely get why anyone would be turned off after seeing the Undertale fans.
>>11859965the Mother hate didn't really start until (western) indie games started becoming popular in the mid/late 2010s.
If you could check archives of /v/ circa 2008~2010, you'd be surprised at how civil and good Mother threads were. One of the few times /v/ wasn't shitposty about something and could all gather together to enjoy something. When the Mother 3 fan translation came out it was like a /v/ golden age. Only other time /v/ was that happy about something was with Japan Time, but witjh Brawl, shitposting started quickly as soon as Melee tourneyfags started complaining and also the whole anti-Wii console war sentiment, but with Mother 3? Everyone loved the game and console wars didn't matter because PCfags could emulate GBA no problem and Sonyfags too on their PSPs.
The only problem Mother threads had back then were a few pedoposters but those were quickly told to gtfo and didn't get to ruin threads as mods actually deleted their spam.
The panorama took a 180 degree change now, most people will hate on Mother because they instantly relate it to undertale, plus there's juxtafag/insists/broke me/milque spammimg and samefagging.
>>11859601 (OP)I can't tell if he's piloting it like a Power Rangers Zord, or if he's just reflected in its visor.
>>11859816The way you know this is true is all the games inspired by Earthbound like Undertale and Yume Nikki use pixel art, like their only familiarity with Earthbound is looking at emulator screenshots. To them that's key to Earthbound's visual aesthetic.
>>11859965I'd only check out the guide after finishing the game. It contains spoilers.
>>11860084This. It unironically was a better time when the games were less known about. It wasn't about making a statement with your like/dislike of it. It was just a cool little game that was pretty unique to itself that you could talk about with other people that were in the know or share with others that weren't. Now it's just fuck you the game sucks or fuck you I like it or weird trannies making it their identity and shitty indie games relentlessly copying it or weird undertale fans claiming it(even though Undertale is more blatantly a ripoff of Moon for PS1 than anything Earthbound but nobody really knows about that game still despite its recent rerelease.)
It's hard to not let the current state of the internet fanbase and detractors ruin the game for me I have to admit. It went from being something I replayed every year to a game I haven't touched in almost a decade. The game itself is still the same but seeing all this bullshit online surrounding it unfold in real time ever since it started getting more eyes on it has just tainted it for me and I don't think I'm ever going to be able to just forget about it and enjoy the game like I used to. It's just sad if anything.
>>11860084same thing happened with undertale threads on /v/ but revisionists will say otherwise
>>11860356>revisionistsUndertale threads have always been putrid, furfag shitpits and there's no revisionism about it. The kickstarter demo threads were pure shit and put off plenty of people before the game was even out.
>>11859601 (OP)Don't pay attention to the combat, it stinks to high heaven. Everything else is peak though.
>>11859601 (OP)the combat was so bad it made me drop the game
everything else was good though
>>11860084The problem was never undertale. At some point, Earthbound got extremely hyped up. It's probably to do with a few videos, but I'll be honest I didn't dig that deep.
Once indies realized that there was a goldmine of yearning itoifags, being 'earthbound-inspired' became the new catch phrase that gets you an army of followers for as little as a few rpg elements. Undertale was the big one, an utterly middling game elevated to meta status purely by earthbound hype and furries. There were many others that just got less lucky.
These things happen all the time. Let's pretend that the entire internet's talking about ace combat for some reason. I give it 3 months before devs are shilling their nostalgia-ridden ace combat knockoffs.
To round this off, a lot of the haters, though objectively correct, didn't even understand why they hate undertale. I've some posts here that were disturbingly confused about the situation. Hopefully this helped.
>>11860274Reflection. See the full poster.
>>11860356Undertale is peak Tumblr tranny shit.
>>11859797silly anon, that's what undertale gets you in for, not earthbound.
>>11859601 (OP)Drop it for another 30 years and play G.O.D. instead (or wait for the PSX translation.)
