>>11862017 (OP)I always found it odd that the next game in the series was titled Heretic II and not something different. Then again, Hexen's full title is "Hexen: Beyond Heretic", so I guess that means Hexen is a spin-off series?

Remember to install this if you got the game from GOG or Steam- it adds the expansion and gets the game working on modern PCs without the graphical issues that all of the source ports have
I had to quite twice. Once because the shovel didn't spawn and again when the shovel didn't dig up the key.
And every patch that fixed anything broke something else.
Hexen and Hexen II are the only two classic, sprite-based first-person shooters that I haven't beaten yet. I should download the first one and give it a try.
>>11864249Hexen II is fully 3D though. So you're WRONG, anon
>>11862017 (OP)It's my favorite one. Beat it first time as Assassin. Those spiky grenades are great. Backstab and hide in shadows are totally useless except against the bosses cause you just use the flying item and hump their backs stabbing them for extra damage.

Hey, someone finally fixed it!
I played the demo for this back in the day and thought it looked ugly as hell compared to Hexen 1. Gave it another shot a few years ago, and with 3d acceleration it actually looks pretty nice, it isn't like Quake where 3d acceleration is an afterthought, it was clearly designed for it.
Anyway, I don't like the levels quite as much as Hexen 1, other than standouts like Egypt, but it is actually great. 8.5/10 game.
>>11863237hammer of thyrion source port worked fine for me
>>11865108Graphical glitches in my case.
>>11864995>looked ugly as hell compared to Hexen 1Hard not to. Hexen 1 is one of the most visually gorgeous games ever created.
>>11862017 (OP)This didn't need to exist
>>11866230Hexen 2, Heretic 2, and Doom 3 were really similar in how much they deviated from their predecessors.
>>11866396Have you even played Hexen 2? It is very similar in structure and design to Hexen 1.
>>11862058That's Hexen 1. This is Hexen 2. Hexen 2 is
>laundry list of tedious little items to collect and then use in specific order
>>11862017 (OP)Hexen and the sequel are the great filters
>>11862017 (OP)So far the only game I've played that includes launching yourself with a catapult as a valid means of progression
>>11868213There's also Assassin's Creed DS game which lets you do that
