Why isn’t there a retro game dedicated entirely to the GT saga in Dragon Ball? Is it because the anime itself was bad, so no one wanted to make a video game for it?

I guess Final Bout is the closest you'll get to a game featuring GT. DBZ really taking off in the US during the late 90s probably made devs focus on developing games based on Z since they could be readily marketed in both the US and Japan, not to mention that Z had a lot more iconic and popular characters than GT, which is good if you're trying to fill a fighting game roster. Still would have been neat had they made an ROG following the story of GT

Fuck it, DS might not be retro, but /dbs/-tier GT vs OGDB arguments are neither retro nor videogames. Attack of the Saiyans is the single best DB game.

I never watched GT, just Z and a bit of the original when I was young. Is it actually any good? I know it’s not canon, but what’s considered canon nowadays is the Super crap, so it’s not like the audience or the writers have real taste anyway.

I just know the studio wanted to keep Dragon Ball going after the Buu saga finale, but they didn’t have much meaningful input from Toriyama when they made GT, so I’m skeptical about whether it’s worth watching.

Also, why does Bulla, Vegeta’s 9 year old daughter, dress like a prostitute? I know his wife is like the skank of the Dragon Ball universe, but isn’t this going a bit too far into messed up territory?

No, it's really boring, and almost as bad as you've heard it is. There's a reason why almost anyone you could ask about GT only remembers Baby and SSJ4 (the ass end of the series) and not shit like Mutchy-Mutchy or Ledgic. They thought "people like og dragonball, so if we turn Goku back into a kid and send him on an adventure..." but the adventure sucked ass and so did most support characters.

GT has its moments and Toriyama just nodded in approval while submitting some key art, see for yourself. Though honestly, you might as well do it since you already went through Toei's anime adaptation of the original series, which already altered plenty of stuff from Toriyama's work (sometimes for better, others not really; also pacing issues introduced there).

As for Super, the manga is better for the most part except for maybe parts of Zamasu/Goku Black and Tournament of Power. Toei really went full retard with the anime despite the occassional fun SoL episode, and Battle of God has much better pacing in the original movie.

Protip: the Pilaf saga sucked and nobody cares about Muscle Tower. Akira wrapped up Dr.Slump and was hoping he can do a crude parody of Journey of the West and make the same amount of money. Boy he was wrong, it almost got axed for a LGBT shojo manga at one point.
Even then, Dragon Ball was still doing so bad in the original magazine, their editor had to convince him to make the manga more action focused to do better against other shonen manga.

This was where we got stuff like Martial Art Tournaments, Taopaipai, Baba's Tornament, King Piccolo, and the entirety of Z.
The same thing happened to GT where some the worse viewership aside the horribly rushed Super 17 arc was from the space-faring arc with Trunks and Pan, who keeps getting in the fucking way each time, but the best views were all the action-centric episodes, like Goku vs Ledgic, and it's more "Z"ish arcs like Baby and the Shadow Dragon arc.

It doesn't matter if you live in France, Mexico, USA, the SEA, Japan and such, nobody watches Dragon Ball for constant poop jokes and seeing Goku's peepee a lot.
and even if you prefer DB's action, DBZ still has some of the most finest martial art action in the history of the franchise.

GT wasn't super popular in Japan, so it got a single game before coming to the west (which was more of a Z game anyway). And while it got better reception here, it wasn't worth catering to the overall smaller audience than Z had worldwide.
So you'll see GT stuff appear in Z games, but not a fully GT focused game outside of the western-exclusive GT Transformation.

I enjoyed GT, especially the super 17 arc. It had some censorship in America that in the younger internet days was circumvented w some QuickTime video clips which made it seem a little off limits as a teen making it a bit cooler. I don’t remember much beyond liking the 17 arc but it was never as bad as the worst z episodes but never really hit the highs either. I also enjoy that garlic jr saga because goku was forreal gone and you get to see the old favorites actually center stage. I would’ve loved a dragonball Budokai game in the vein of the first one where the game matched the story beat for beat. I think it would’ve been pretty cool and also establish the series more. I mean take away dbz Budokai 2 in history w a GT Budokai and I think it would’ve made it more relevant. Those games were super popular.

They had some of the best choreography, sure, though they lack that sweet intensity certain fights like any Goku vs Vegeta battle or most of the Android fights have. That's also including movie only stuff like all Cooler fights and some minor moments like Tien fighting with Trunks.

This might sound like a strange question, but has anyone tried to copy the ’90s anime art style? We’ve got a resurgence of retro themed indie stuff doing pretty well.

I’ve yet to see a recent show that mimics the style of classics like Yu Yu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, Dragon Ball, etc. Both it and gaming bring in huge money, so there’s gotta be a market for this kind of throwback in anime too right?

Shin Butoden on Saturn is completely broken, I'd be surprised if it was actually played competitively. The 16 bit games are much better than the 32 bit games.
