Why do Tony Hawk skating games rule but Dave Mirra BMX games suck?

I played the shit out of Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX's demo and never pirated/bought it in the end.

Neversoft was a really great studio, that's why.

Dave Mirra BMX was cool, but BMX XXX is better.

I wanted a pair of roller blades so bad then all the sudden it became gay. I think skateboarding blowing up made it seem that way.

That's because even little kids can rollerblade with minimal practice. Just staying on top of a skateboard takes more skill than that, let alone getting anywhere with one, so people who can not only ride one but do tricks with it are inherently cooler.

DM and TH games weren't the same devs, were they? Mirra games always felt a bit less responsive than Hawk ones.

Neversoft just being really good at their jobs is certainly a factor but we could also point to Tony being an active element during the development in making sure it got the spirit of skateboarding. Was Mirra involved in the games aside from licensing out his name?

I've always appreciated Tony Hawk in just about everything he was involved in. Even his little cameos in movies were cool, in that they often had him going along with self-deprecating humor (for example, in The New Guy). And of course, I'll never forget the time he was on Tom Green's web show and got asked to do a barrel roll by a /b/tard.

Never heard of a helmet? What happened to Hoffman, also?
