Man been a while since i dropped a game, i saw in a thread about how New horizons is such a good game so i decided to try this one out and holy shit does it get old fast.

The beginning is harsh but completely manageable even if i lost some money buying fucking grapes or something, then when you get the hang of it (and with that i mean buy art once) you start making money and the game actually becomes pretty fun, exploring the world actually feels harsh and you really need to prepare for the worst to come, getting trough Asia the first time was a great time and i became rich after i got back to mainland.

After that tough? Now you are a errand boy for the king, need to track down some random Turkish fucks and worse of all battle them in that mild battle system that tries to be realistic but manages only to be no fun at all. And worse of all you have to do like 12 errands before you can see the ending after the good part is already over.

All that said, does new horizons fix the battle system? Is there more to it's endgame than running errands? I dropped this but i actually had a good amount of fun for the limited hours it was about sailing and not about fighting random pirates.

Well that's good to read, I'll probably pick it up later, a little bummed by the first game but definitely gonna give the second one a try.

It's actually a very basic LCD Grid Shader, but it looks absolutely perfect, Super Metroid in particular becomes a completely different game when played with this filter, i swear the colors change when you use the shader, it's definitely a must for classics, makes me sad to think most people just rawdog old games without any shaders.

tl;dr but if we're talking about games with boats then legacy of the ancients had a cool part where you have to sail out based on vague directions and hope you find land before you run out of food

New Horizons is one of the most complex RPG/Sim games on the SNES imo.

Agreed.
I play New Horizons every year or two. It's still probably the best in the genre, though there are some modern indieshits I need to try.
The first Uncharted Waters is really fucking rough though. I tried a playthrough this year and dropped it at about the halfway point.
I would have finished it, except cash being capped at a value that will fit in an unsigned 16 bit integer makes for some incredibly tedious gameplay in a game where you're a trader trying to build up cash.
I guess I just had more patience as a kid, or maybe it was the lack of options and not knowing better. But it's not worth torturing yourself these days.

Op here, and that's exactly what i was talking about, the money limit is not even that daming since nothing is that expensive outside of the larger ships, but it's still ass when you're trying to gatter as much money as possible for your next voyage. Much less with, again, a mild battle system and the being an errand boy problem.

My Franco was at this point when i decided to drop the game, i suppose around the halfway mark as well but can't be arsed to actually go around doing chores. Started playing Snatcher now and dropping uncharted waters was about the best thing i did this year. Still, with the good word from this thread i will be trying the second game in a near future for sure.

Also, fuck the mechanic of your ships randomly disappearing, i swear sometimes the games marks a ship and it becomes inevitable after a few days sailing, why????

Love New Horizons, played the shit out of it growing up. Played the Salvador route of the Gaiden game, need to get around to playing the other route at some point.

I'm surprised they haven't. Gaiden would be a good choice because it only has two protags and continues where New Horizons stops, with many of the old protags making cameos. At the very least, it seems like the fifth gen remake of New Horizons would be a breeze.

Supposing I'm fine reading moon, which version of the game is the best to start with? PC98 looks pretty nice.

Is it like in the MMO? When you were sailing livestock-category cargo in that game, there was a random event where the amount you were transporting increased due to giving birth.
