How was Nintendo okay with this?!? Shit is gonna give me nightmares
>>11864817 (OP)I love over the top horrific elements in retro games. It's definitely a lost art. They took the weirdos out of gamedev
All horror is just Mario 64 liminal spaces and hostile stuffed animals
>>11864838Worst bait I've ever seen
>>11864817 (OP)>Another psychedelic battle background, except there's no visible enemy to fight because you can't perceive its form>Becomes more and more static-filled as you wear it down with prayers before finally crashing like a TV that had its plug pulled outI never figured out why people get so freaked out over the same thing they've been seeing all game but with a small twist.
>>11864817 (OP)aborting Jesus is... le good
>>11864820The former inspired the latter though. A lot of indie "le psychological RPGs" are straight up Mother/EB clones
>>11864820Giygas in Earthbound is definitely scary as fuck for a kids game but I can't think of anything else like it. Mother 1 and 2 are obviously intentionally weird but that shit is just on another level. Can't imagine being one of those kids who actually finish their RPGs and getting to that part. Played this series as an adult and was still baffled by that fight
>>11865285omega flowey and his meta 4th wall breaking attacks have nothing against giygas' incomprehenisve attack
>>11864817 (OP)I played EB as a kid and this fight didn't scare me at all, I thought it was incredibly cool for a final boss. It's still one of the only games where it truly felt like you were killing some kind of God.
For me, this fight wasn't any scarier than fighting Lavos in CT.
It was a really good final boss. Yes, it's scary, it's even scarier if you're a kid, but how does it feel actually beating something you're afraid of?
Final bosses should be scary. How many times did you fight an evil god without even flinching?
>>11865114It's not a baby you retard. the image is literally the original nes gygas
>>11864847nta but i was just coming into this thread to post that exact gif. cope
>>11865114He doesn't look a thing like jesuz
>>11864817 (OP)the same way you are being ok with the epstein files not being released.
>>11864817 (OP)Why does the ESRB have no indicators for horror and scariness? PEGI does. You could make a pant shitting horror game without blood and it would get an E rating.
>>11867307Like you were during the Biden years
>>11866973it's literally a baby, retard
>>11869518it's metaphorically a baby, retard
Its not an abortion. I don't think the symbolism is intentional either. Marcus Lindblom, Earthbound's lead translator, said in an interview that the fetus thing "never even came up." And its not like Lindblom had no communication with the game's original team. He worked very closely with Masayuki Miura, who in turn worked very closely with Itoi (Miura typed the game's entire script for Itoi who told him what to write.)
>>11864817 (OP)earthbound guy being an infant and glados being a lady were very popular 18 years ago
The theory was always bullshit because it was 100% just there for flavor.
Think about it. The baby only shows up after a few phases once you get the pattern of giygases going, it's not something you're gonna see at the start.
That's because he's not a baby. The image is just hidden in there because it adds more creepiness to the creepy ass fight.
The translator post is spot on - he's not a young giygas, that would've been the original form from mother/ebz. It never came up because it's not a story element, it's just a setpiece.
I am reminded of the time when people over-analyzed OFF. You know, the artsy RPG, the one where everything's symbolic? People still confused symbolism for metaphor. Yes, the scenes are meant to evoke abuse. No, the game isn't actually some kid in a hospital. Get a grip.
