Thoughts on Futuristic Racers?

I honestly have nothing but great memories of Episode 1 purely thanks to this game. I remember the pre-movie release hype was fun, and I went to see it on theatre, but then quickly got this game and forgot all about the movie, weaknesses and only focused on the POD RACING (which, seeing that scene on the big screen was cool). This game kept me entertained for many hours and was probably one of my top played games of 1999. Extremely good gameplay and track design. It's really creative and crazy, and the sense of speed is amazing.
This is one of those high quality licensed games that are legitimate masterpieces.
I know there's a PS2 sequel, not sure how it compares.

Revenge is eh. It's focused on combat rather than speed, and while destroying other racers is fun at first, once that novelty wears off you're left with a game that's a lot slower than E1R. It also cut several racers from which doesn't help either.

Very cool game and I really enjoyed it. It does feel really "empty", though. Like you aren't constantly jockeying for advantage like in the movie or like in other similar games like F-Zero.
Similarly, this is the first thing I associate with Episode, not the mediocre and disappointing film.

Nothing futuristic about this, it's based on something that happened a long, long time ago. Also people had seen the movie already so when the game was released Pod racing was something people were already aware of.

The AI basically cannot compete with you but just racing through the tracks is alot of fun, more fun than F-Zero X even

The upgrades are way too good for the ai to catch up, doing no upgrades actually makes them way more competitive to deal with, but the problem is playing without upgrades makes the game super slow and boring.

Is it better or worse than wipeout omega collection?

Need ask someone who is into old WipEout because apparently craft handling is different from WipEout to HD. Personally I have WipEout 2048, HD, and Fury on the Vita and love it. I gold medaled all the events in 2048 and HD. I need one or two more medals on Fury and will have 100% completion. I also dipped into Pulse a bit as well.

I think they're great, but I belive early PS1 WipEout out is more brutal and unforgiving. Need a lot of track knowledge when to start turning, this is even in the altered physics iterations of the series due to later higher speed events on tracks with more 90 degree or hairpin turns.

Pod Racer is good, but easy in general, could beat it all in a sitting or two. WipEout would have a lot more to chew for you.

Really need to drift into boost to be competitive. It feels sick as fuck doing China Town and do the town section on the ground using the drift to hit the 90 degree turns rather than fly over it.

Once upon a time future was bright, full of light, lasers, tech thingies. Future was cool progrees, it was futuristic.

This game should have forced the two stick control. playing it with generic controls is cheating.

Ben Quadinaros being the final opponent and best racer in the game will never not be hilarious to me.

Was just thinking about Episode 1 Podracing for N64. Cool game. Crazy tracks. Hard to fucken see. Always liked Sebulba. I really liked XG2 for 64. Ended up trading it for Smash Bros. with a kid down the block, but I have fond memories of that game. The racing, the arcade mode and the multiplayer.
