Can anyone explain why Retroarch is rendering Rondo/SotN this way with the Dracula X Chronicles iso? DXC itself and all the menus look fine but when I start either Rondo or SotN, the video splits to the black borders on the sides, starts flickering, and there's nothing in the center. The same thing happens with every renderer backend. I'm using the default core configuration. Works fine in PPSSPP's standalone emulator but I like the Retroarch shaders more.

I have no idea but I booted it up and have a black box appearing that covers stuff, a dialogue box appeared over it which is odd (I didnt capture it) I havent tried changing renderers yet

Do you guys buy the steam versions of games that you could emulate or do you still emulate them whether or not they could be bought from steam?

I can't think of many examples of where that would apply, except maybe those retro game collections like the Sega ones. In those cases yeah obviously just emulate them.
For the most part I do the opposite though, a lot of older games on Steam/GOG come with DOSBox (an emulator) and most of the time I prefer to use the files in a source port or ScummVM.

It depends but I usually do if there isn't any downsides to it. I bought Killer7 and No More Heroes a while ago and I thought they were better than the emulated versions, for example.

Isn't that different though because they're PC ports instead of the exact same game

If I have the money to spare and really liek the game, I buy it on sale.

I just play everything on Fightcade. No need to download roms with the auto-downloader.

Steam deck is really great with emudeck. Steam even has a good replay function for all games.

Well yeah, but sometimes the ports are better than the emulated versions, so I buy those. Again, it just depends whether or not which one is better.

Yeah I suppose so. It's almost inevitable too that each option has its pros and cons, missing content usually.

I play steam versions where possible unless its emulated "port"

Does anyone get a lot of rendering problems with flycast? At first I thought it was because the RA core is like a year out of date, but I downloaded the latest standalone and the same rendering issues persist. Weirdly, I've had the same rendering issues in both OpenGL and Vulkan too. I've tried every graphics setting on multiple devices. It's a software problem.

Redream seems overall a better emulator (never had a single graphical issue), but it's closed source and after doing some testing seems to require an internet connection. Wtf? Dreamcast emulation is just cursed I guess.

My main issues with flycast are
>no pause function that just pauses the emulation - you must bring up the emulator menu in order to pause the game
>save states seem to create instability in some games at specific points if you even make a state in some spots, usually resulting in a crash to BIOS

What problem exacly? The only thing I can think of is the alpha sorting option that can get you graphical glitches depending on what you set it to. If your pc is good enough, it should be set to Per-Pixel, it's more demanding but the polygons are drawn correcly.

Use ShaderGlass, then

Should I get a SSD if the majority of my games are from the WII or older? Maybe a HDD might do the work, but I don't have one to test.
