They wanted a cheap option for poor people who couldn't afford a Saturn. Unfortunately for Sega the PS1 ended up being that cheap option.

Nope, but it was forced through to market anyway. At least it had Virtua Racing Deluxe and Shadow Squadron/Stellar Assault.

Yes, in 1995, the Genesis sold 2 million in America, and that’s with the Saturn being released in May. There was still life in the Genny, they should have supported the 32X better for a couple years to and released a more powerful console around the same time as the N64.

Coming to think of it, Sega was oddly kind with their install base
>supporting the Master System to everywhere BUT Japan to the point of developing games in Japan but not releasing them domestically
>supporting the Game Gear at all

all I know is that it had the best version of the Virtua Fighter home ports, least from what I hear.

I liked the 32X. It was a perfectly fine IDEA on how to keep the genesis alive and the all in one version with 32X built in would have been a much better budget system for the later half of the 90s, over the Model 3. Most games on it are decent and one has to consider that basically everything we got was a launch game. The stuff that was supposedly in development would have made it shine for 2D games of the era.

It was a response to the Jaguar. They wanted to bring a "cheap" console on the market to prevent the Jaguar from stealing their sells.
