Man remember when we used to buy games and they came with beautiful booklets and sometimes even mini guides and cool stuff like that?
I feel sorry for current and future generations who grew with games like live service or gacha getting accustomed to see games as a service rather than products to own.
It all went downhill when publishers started taking out manuals and the community allowed it with no pushback.
Any cool vr related game boxes/manuals you'd like to share?
>>11869719 (OP)The MGS2 manual had a comic showing how to play the game.
>>11869719 (OP)I'll post a couple. Japanese SotN comes with a bonus audio CD and a little booklet that contains some really nice artwork and an exclusive little manga. It even has a dust jacket. Strange inclusion for something meant to be stored inside of a box.
>>11869748JP King's Field 3 comes with a little booklet full of screencaps from the first 2 games, as well as a retelling of their stories.
>>11869759Probably the last one I'll do for now. Japanese SotC doesn't come with anything extra, but it's manual is very pretty. It's got a nice foldout, and a couple of these weird little half pages framed by the outer edges of the screenshots beneath them. Definitely one of the more interesting pieces of paperwork I've come across.
>>11869719 (OP)I liked the way PS1 games smelled new
The ones I bought new, the manuals still smell like that. I don't know why everyone else treats their games so bad.
>>11869748>>11869759>>11869770Wonder if the japanese fought back against taking manuals away.
These lool too soulful.
>>11869773>even the cheapo reprints came with all the bonus stuffsure maybe the manual would be in black and white instead of full color, but you still got the full package
>>11869719 (OP)>Man remember when we used to buy games and they came with beautiful booklets and sometimes even mini guides and cool stuff like that?Yes
>>11869719 (OP)>It all went downhill when publishers started taking out manuals and the community allowed it with no pushback.Yes but we also liked those budget games in DVD cases. Games were very expensive but I do very much miss the maps and charts and manuals etc although remember a lot of them doubled as anti-piracy mechanisms
>>11869773green labels have soul, sony realized this which is why they downgraded it to maroon for all the subsequent systems,
>>11869748You could put american sotn in a cd player and play the sound track
>>11869719 (OP)PCfags had it even better.
Some "manuals" had 150 fucking pages. There was nothing cooler than having a little book about your favorite game so you could get even more obsessed with it. it was neat.
>>11873280Its funny how seemingly archaic features blew our mind back then.
Games coming with fully colored and detailed manuals, registration slips, artwork, etc. made them feel like a more premium thing you were buying and owning. Its very charming and adds a lot to the product.
