Pins 10 and 12 are generally unused and in most cases not even connected, this diagram is either incorrect or for some proprietary device. Even when pins 10 and 12 are listed as used for something, they are both considered Data/Communication pins, pin 10 being standardized as "Control Bus(AV-Link)", whatever that even means, is nonsense.

I prefer knowing what kind of signal is being output from the physical appearance of the cord alone. You get a device that outputs over shart and you never know what it's going to do. Not to mention that JP-21 shit, who allowed that to happen?

Not really. I soldered my own SNES controller adapters before USB really took off. Not rocket science (and I'm not even that good at soldering). All you need's a pin layout and a basic understanding of what generally speaking electricity is.

You can't just re-pin the SNES's controllers to a USB port, there's no hardware on the controller to communicate over a USB connection, you would need something in between the convert the signals from the controller to USB.

A non-occurrence in the 35 years I've used the cables. Worst that's happened is a detached wire - something that is easily fixable with a soldering iron.

Is there any advantages to using VGA over SCART?
Not talking about a specific gaming issue or anything, just a manufacturing question. A smaller connection with a cheaper cable is always better.

When I was a kid I preferred RCA connectors because they're way easier to plug in, especially if you're at somebody's house using their TV. SCART can be difficult to plug in blind reaching around the TV and you can't easily move a 32" CRT. Plus RCA connectors were often on the front of the TV. When we were kids the video quality didn't matter, as long as it wasn't all fuzzy.

RGB is great but I still use composite RCA with most consoles because it's convenient. It's because I don't have any TVs, so I have to adapt it to a VGA connector (expensive) to use on my projector/monitors, and only a few of those sync to 15KHz RGB. Whereas with composite I can just plug it in and it works well enough.

imagine if we never stopped using RCA and HDMI cables were just 20 RCA connectors that had to be plugged in in the right order otherwise the video would be purple

they're not. besides, manufacturers were doing this 20+ years ago before hdmi was common. no point going backward. hdmi shit is just so much cheaper and simpler. analogue video is dead.

you need to convert vga to something the tv supports. this is why PC video cards many years ago came with optional svideo / composite outputs.

I don't know what you're talking about. There was some discussion on a recent MLiG video about the VGA connector, DSUB-15 or whatever it's called, being better than SCART and using it instead for video switches. Analogue video is not dead.
