because they never made another 2d mario until NSMB, and that game was trying to be like the nes original.

No? It had allusions to it visually, but the structure was more inspired by SMB3 and SMW. As for Mario's moveset, they approached it with the goal of transferring SM64's move set back into 2D, hence walljumps, triplejumps, ground pounds, etc.

NSMB is like the nes because it's all about physics. It doesn't matter if it has a map or you can carry items, the game is built around the idea of precise jumps and momentum.

>>11873824
yes everybody knows, but that's a sequel is clearly an exception.

I'm also waiting for this, and I'm going to play it with an original arcade Donkey Kong joystick and buttons. Maybe not the best choice but we'll see how it works out.

I refuse to believe they're not cooking up a remake for this too, especially after the lore we thought we knew got upended so magnificently.

you don't even understand the topic, original anon is asking why the moves never did a return in OTHER 2d games, not why another sequel wasn't made.

It's really interesting how people paint this game like it goes against 90's Donkey Kong. It's basically a Rare fangame. It doesn't resemble the aesthetics or gameplay of arcade Donkey Kong to any degree. It's also a very goddamn good game by the way, so I'm posting it.

I was surprised at how good at this game is, given the controls seemed like it would be pure jank at first
