oh hey I was playing that the other day but I dropped it before beating it and then forgot about it. I think that's the third time it's happened in my life, something about this version just does not click with me.

It has a lot of stock sound effects, and the art is competent but reminds me of amateurish art you'd see in webcomics of the mid 2000s.

I was more bothered with how nerfed some of the moves are compared to the previous versions, like the range of the knee attack which is pathetic for instance, and the way enemies like to surround you but also tend to get overlaid (2 enemies on the exact same coordinates)

Shame that the only Beat'EmUp Hook game was arcade exclusive while all the console games based on it were a shitty game of a completely different genre.

And yet they still managed to remove things in the US arcade version

Play the fan games Golden Axe Returns and Golden Axe Myth, you sure are going to like them

Pretty great game. Have that crunchy Irem sprites.
I don't think that console Hook is that bad, it's a pretty good platformer

>Robin Williams and bunch of weapon-toting kids beat the shit out of waves of pirates
I never even heard of this and it looks and sounds like a fever dream. A shame too, it looks like a solid title, better than the forgettable console platformers.

Mania Mode is fun but I think I prefer it in SoR4 slightly because the mooks aren't quite as spongey

GG version of SoR2 was surprisingly decent, exept that well, Axel is basically the only useable character that doesn't suck ass; and also enemies can VERY easily keep hitting you again and again as you get up until your life bar runs out, sometimes you can get out of it by using the A+B special but not often; but at least it made me feel less bad about being cheap myself in return with the grab locks.
I liked how it mixed elements from SoR1 and it also had the Predator as a boss though it wasn't a very interesting fight. Axel's dragon punch was also more balanced than in the og, it requires more precision.

I'm a zoomie coming into oldschool beat'em'ups, and SoR1 always filters me with this fucker. Basically any boss that requires you to walk up into their line to throw was a bitch in any brawlers I've played (Captain Commando being a different one, tho I probably just suck at that one too). But I still hate this cunt so much.

The main thing to remember about beat em ups is your jab range is typically higher than that of your opponent, pay close attention to your spacing and use that to your advantage.

I don't remember if this boss has minions, but typically throwing minions at a boss is a sure way to get in close to them too.

Well I know of strats like-
>Off-screen punching enemies and locking them there
>throw loops
But, in the case of bosses (not sure about Souther though) they usually have something on wakeup to stop you from looping them easily. Or they grab you on wake up. But you're right on the spacing, going by videos players usually intersect him upwards or downwards, then attack.

If you already know his pattern on wake up, you can use that to your advantage. Give him some room after he hits the ground and let him make the first mistake when he gets back up. Beat em ups are hard, and you can do hard things. Good luck anon!

jump kick, let him walk to you, and my favorite new technique is to punch the air when he's close to getting in range but under or over you - they will hesitate and then you can walk in on them if you time it right
