How does it hold up today? Is it still considered a classic?
>>11877150 (OP)>Ubislopit's garbage and it flopped for a reason
Has a really pretentious title for a game that’s about snapping pictures of monsters
>>11877150 (OP)It's fine. But there's a reason nobody talks about it anymore
>>11877178I never got why they chose it
>>11877197>Slopper Cell>coolHitman (Kinoman) mogs this glorified movie game series
>>11877190>But there's a reason nobody talks about it anymoreWhat a stupid fucking thing to say. The "reason" is because games suck ass now.
>>11877150 (OP)It should have offered coop with the pigman as player 2.
>>11877150 (OP)It's a middling Zelda clone. It has charm and the hoverboat is kinda cool, but the dungeons drag on, the stealth is barebones, and the combat especially is just repetitive dogshit.
It's definitely not a classic in the same sense as something like ICO or Sly 2.
>>11877150 (OP)>>11877190Years ago, they announced a sequel and released a teaser trailer. But then Ubisoft made some terrible financial decisions. So I'm sure the sequel is cancelled now.
It's really good game. Although pretty short game
Started playing this today. The factory is waaaay too long for the second dungeon of the game, and even after you beat it, you can't just leave, you have to backtrack all the way to the beginning. Then trololol the gate is actually locked, so then you have to backtrack all the way back into the dungeon, go in an area you've already been and grab a power cell, then there is a timer to get back to the hideout.
Seriously what the fuck is this shit? Just let me leave the fucking dungeon when it's done with. Why are western devs so retarded when it comes to simple concepts like this? And the combat is just absolutely abysmal, constantly spam the same two buttons mindlessly like an ape.
It's a 6/10 at its absolute best, but most of the time usually worse than that. It's a pretty incoherent game with a bunch of ideas they threw at the wall and none of them stick. The hoverboat sections are bad, the "dungeons" are bad, the combats bad, the photography aspect is stupid, the combat is bad, and the puzzles aren't fun or clever or challenging. It's more similar to Star Fox Adventures than Zelda(Yes, they are pretty different), and a lot of people already don't like that game. I actually do like SFA so when I say this sucks, you know it's gotta be pretty awful.
I don't understand how this game has any sort of cult following whatsoever or people that want a sequel. It has to just be weirdos that are obsessed with the characters or something because it definitely isn't because of the game itself.
>>11877150 (OP)It's pretty overrated and a underwhelming game to actually play, but the characters and worldbuilding are good enough to carry it.
>>11877491They've released several trailers for BG&E2 and the game's development has been rebooted at least a couple of times. It'll likely never be released, and frankly who gives a shit if it is at this point. Michel Ancel left Ubisoft years ago. Any sequel released now would just be generic Ubislop with the name slapped on it to cash in on whatever nostalgia remains for the original.
>>11877190Isn't it a Nietzsche ref?
>>11877150 (OP)It feels like you're playing a game from the early 2000s, but it's pretty fun. I would play the anniversary edition that came out recently instead. It's less janky.
Played the old PS3 HD version a few months ago. Here are some quick thoughts:
Pros:
>Fun photography elements.
>Charmingly ugly French aesthetics. Exact same art team as Rayman 2 and it shows.
>Decent gameplay variety that *usually* distracts from how weak each part actually is.
>Seeing the world and propaganda change as Jade releases more reports is cool.
>Side quests are decent fun although the pearl upgrades really do fucking nothing.
Cons:
>Mediocre combat
>Mediocre stealth sections that go on too long
>Mediocre racing
>Some truly grating music (race theme, bar music)
>A handful of genuinely bad minigames
>Jade is basically a non-character in her own game. Zero personality.
>Completely retarded twist and cliffhanger ending.
>Laughably pretentious title for a very simple game with hamfisted themes and completely black and white morality to its story.
I like it just fine, I had fun playing it. But how it developed such a reputation over the years is really beyond me. Jade is so boring, and the cliffhanger is so fucking dumb. Of all the games to spend 2+ decades making a sequel for, Beyond Good & Evil is especially ridiculous.
>>11877537Speaking of the factory. It was weird to me how quickly it was revealed that the evil government guys are actually aliens. Dunno it odd we find it out right away almost at the start of the game.
it looks fine but what really steams me is that oneyplays never finished their series on it
>>11877178Being randomly attached to some forgotten jankware from 2003 is a fitting end to nietzsche’s legacy.
>>11877473Implying Ico and Sly 2's combat isn't also repetitive dogshit
I mean, I like those games but let's be fair
>>11877178Even funnier since the morals of the video game are the opposite of Nietzsche from whom the title is taken
>>11877675>Jade is basically a non-character in her own game. Zero personality. She's pretty so that's all that matters.
>>11879961Ico's combat definitely is, it's the main flaw of the game. But Sly's combat is fine, you're not really meant to be engaging in combat against guard unless you break stealth, it doesn't constantly throw gauntlets of spongy enemies at you, and the bossfights in Sly are like far, far better.
>>11877150 (OP)Never finished it as a kid, it wasn't as interesting as Rayman 2/3, there were other way cooler games that took my interest
I don't care what you people say. It was one of my favorite game on the ps2 for me. And it's a cult classic.
