Do you prefer 3D or 2D Sonic?

2D has more of a consistency.
Storywise, I would love it if a Classic 2D game was written as shounen windshit and a Modern 3D game was wriiten as wordless actions. Y'know, a reversal. It'd be a fun experiment.

It's not about 2D or 3D Sonic

It's about Megadrive Sonic vs non Megadrive Sonic

The only good one are the Megadrive Sonic

Post Megadrive 2D Sonic are mediocre/bad (advance,rush,sonic 4 etc...)

I like both, but 2D is just on a whole different level, when they get it right at least. Only thing that comes close is SRB2 imo

3D
2D Sonic is amazing but very inconsistent, unless you just mean Genesis

2D Sonic are the funnest 2D splatformers to me. 3D Sonic is an interesting attempt to make it 3D, but ultimately fumbled to me, and put the character solidly in B - C tier depending how you look at it so, yeah I don't hate 3D but 2D all the way, it was the series' prime years

Overall the classics reign supreme, but I'll definitely pick Adventure over Advance.

But if you're a 00s kid you didn't really like Sonic until it became ironic to zoomers in the post ironic world along with Space Jam, because you all hated Sonic and liked Crash remakes, Spyro, Jak and Daxter, Sly Coooper etc

I was born in the mid 1990s so Sonic Adventure 2 to Zero Gravity was my childhood. I simply didn't buy and didn't play shitty games and didn't let their existence poison my love for the franchise (the games I did like and the music and the parodies). I don't know why you're projecting your own experience as an older kid embarrassed by the transition it underwent onto kids beneath you. There was never a single moment in time where Sonic was a dead or toxic brand in America, Brawl made sure of that. Most people were not aware of the underground fetish world of the internet.

I can play through Genesis Sonic any day. There have been times where I've gone nuts and just replayed 1, 2, 3&K, or CD all day. I did the Sonic Origins 'story mode' in one sitting. The level design and the graphic design and the music are all amazing to this day.

But at the same time, the most fun I ever had with Sonic came in the form of going for total completion in Adventure 2 or (not retro) Unleashed. Playing, replaying, learning, until I'm able to blitz through a level like Final Rush and consistently get the A rank. Nothing in the Genesis games ever matched that sheer adrenaline.
