>Monster battles are becoming more popular, but kids are unable to learn how to fight because they can't handle monsters as well as adults

>Adults made a card game based on monster battling so kids could safely learn how monster battles work

>First thing that happens is someone's kid brother went missing in some ruins

>Turns out people also created ruins for kids to explore to simulate adults going on expeditions with their monster

>Except, they didn't actually make these ruins safe to explore.

>And for some reason adults are banned from entering, even in an emergency like this, because they're supposed to exclusively be for the kids to play their little card game

>So now it's up to you, another kid, to go save him

... what the fuck is wrong with the people in this world?

is the game any good? I never played any other monster-catching games on GB besides Pokemon.

well, monster ranchers world is kinda like this medieval place that also has some things like space age tech and medicine because it's another (surprise surprise) post apocalyptic jrpg scenario where man killed itself with weapons so the world returned to the dark ages with magic, right?

I've accepted these worlds were kinda insane after Yugioh and everyone's obsession with children's card games

You think people actually play them? Nope, they scalp them. The store i go to never has those and kids are unable to play a kids game because of greedy adults.

Wait, is it really? I never realized Monster Rancher had "deep lore," and I played a ton of MR2. As far as I can remember, the characters in that never talk about anything besides raising monsters and tournaments.

You go through a bunch of ancient ruins and the descriptions for most of the robot monsters you find there talk about how they were built for an ancient war.

The anime adaption also throws out any ambiguity and just spells out what happened.

I haven't seen much of the show other than maybe half an episode but that entire franchise is about cards, the cards aren't a spin-off, so of course they will play it up more, and I think there's some ties to like, ancient pharos and shit? But yes, it's laughably overdone.

This game however even in-universe doesn't make sense that it's being taken so seriously, it's literally just a game adults made for kids as an educational tool, but these same adults created dangerous areas for the kids to explore and then banned anyone other than children from entering? That's a while new level of insane.

Japanese games love their post-apocalyptic settings. Though, is it specifically Earth or another planet? Lots of them it takes place on some other planet that humanity settled long ago and then some apocalyptic event happened there.
