Would this game have flopped if it had been released under RE label?

It was supposed to be a Castlevania. Then they dumbed down the whole story and made Dante a 'sup dude guy. I still like it, but eh.

that was never a possibility, it used to be a RE game but it veered off into its own thing entirely and eventually became DMC. they might as well give Maximo the Resident Evil label

Kamiya project. It has nothing to do with Mikami's ideas. In fact, God Hand is more Resident Evil than DMC ever was

according to capcoms own records this game sold somewhere over 2 million copies.
RE outbreak, the ps2 exclusive online co-op focused resident evil game that is instantly going to have people against it because RE isn't that popular in japan but japan was the only country that really bothered with the ps2 online adapter instead of just playing on pc/xbox for that sort of thing sold about 1.4 million.

TLDR: no of course not, it was a good game and word of mouth/critics would've led to it selling well regardless of if it had a unique title. you would definitely have the people that lost their shit about RE4 not being a real RE game a few years later going mental though
