For me it's not even just reflexes. I basically have to get in a flow state, otherwise I find myself forgetting which button does what and start getting all fumbly with my fingers

I had a similar issue but after being motivated to take care of my health for a awhile I feel better than I did when I was younger (I used to eat like shit and smoke cigarettes and never exercise for years) I will probably start feeling like shit again when im 40+ but so be it

Now now, old timer. We all have to get old.

Perhaps you'd like to play this game. I'd bet you'd get really good at it :) It has scary looking trucks but don't worry, it's only a video game :)

the nice thing about being old is having build a successful business so now you can afford to swipe for goodies like 30,000 different truck sims or pay2win advancements in mmos and not have to worry about wasting time like all the wagies/neets grinding away

I'm 38. I'm still beating games I didn't think I would. I don't think men have a noticeable reaction drop until their 50's. So your lack of skills are on you unless it is based upon your deteriorating body due to repetitive movements.

I can still do it at 34

I'm 37 and my skill level peaked a couple years ago when I realized "I actually haven't beaten that many games in my life" and decided to beat literally hundreds of NES games accross several genres. From there I went to other platforms and from that point onwards it was just a matter of time and will, not "can I beat this?"

I used to think I knew something about video games before, well I didn't, and I'd wager many /vr/ posters still are in that category. Ask yourself how many games you've beaten in your life, if it's less than 200 you probably don't know SHIT about video games.

>getting filter'd by the tutorial boss in DMC1 now
>SMB1 warpless as a literal child no problem
>dying like a million times in SMW now
Yeah I think it's over for me, time to get into turn-based JRPGs and visual novels

You get a real appreciation with the simplicity of some games and what the developers did with it in regards of level and enemy design. Personally I've been slowly chipping away at some arcade games and getting 1cc's here and there.

Time to become a menu based gamer. I've never been good at twitch games, so I feel no qualms about getting older

If you play the same small pool of games over and over, you can get incredibly good at them and surprise yourself. If you play games you're unfamiliar with often, you're going to have more of a learning curve. Lifestyle as well will play a part in it. Make sure you're reading a lot otherwise your brain is going to atrophy.

I have to play through the NES Double Dragon and TMNT every couple of years as my baseline for my gamer skillz. If I can't beat either of those games I know I have a problem.

Use a CRT or configure runahead in your emulator. You'd be surprised at how much people attribute age decay to simple input lag

I'm 40 and pissing around on an anime image board because my life is just that pathetic, and I can beat NES games today that I never could in my teens. You don't have to degenerate as you get older, you just choose to.
