My only problem with this controller is the d-pad is mapped as a stick, making some games/emulators act strangely when you want to use it as a d-pad, or outright ignore it. It should've had a toggle switch, which they acknowledged by adding one on the Xbox version.
Duckstation is a particularly notable example, and I had to fuck around for like 20 minutes to get it to work right.

Yes, ordering some poverty 4th party trash from a company looking to target consumer collector redditors then wondering why it is low quality must be some kind of mental illness.
I'll stick to using the controller I already owned, which is high quality, has way more features, and is still going over a decade later.

8bitdo has great controllers for the price point, this place just gives disproportionate attention to things it hates (which in turn gives it plenty of free advertising). i love my OP and SN30. i just wish i didn't have to remap them every time i switch between them, that's a Retroarch problem though.

I had a similar issue with mine, it's like the pad got stuck, as if the edges were slightly gluey or something... I took off the disk and cleaned the inner part, since then it's been perfect. It's far from ideal, but I got the controller for cheap, so I don't mind, it's good.

I liked Saturn replicas better, both Retrobit and nameless chinkshit. The ergonomics are slightly better, though no Select button (apparently the wireless Retrobit has one, but I didn't have one) and the shoulder buttons are much worse. I would say it's down to how often you're going to use the shoulder buttons.

The rubber membrane under the d-pad may have split or broken, and that can cause buttons to get stuck or not respond with an even level of tactile force.

I had this happen with my first 8bitdo SN30 Pro when they were still getting away with Super Famicom aesthetics. I contacted them about it at the time (2018 or 2019 I think?) and they shipped me a free replacement part.

Both have input lag to variable degree depending on the implementation. Check out the rpubs MiSTer FPGA latency list for full lag tests for every controller/comnection type. It also shows variance, which BT tends to be worse

8shitdo controllers have 1-5ms wired depending on version, and around 11ms for both BT and 2.4GHz.

Just get a DualSense, a far better controller and has around 2ms and extremely low variance.

>Input lag
I have crippling terminal autism spreading throughout my body aggressively altering my thinking, and even I'm not bothered by input lag from local controllers and monitors.
It's when it's done over a network that I notice, <80-100ms and you just compensate and don't notice. Digital Foundry like channels has ruined a lot of people's enjoyment.

It's not huge but it does add up from controller to TV to using buffered modes. Especially something like BT can have spikes in input lag that definitely cause issues. For casual games It's fine, but something like shmups or action games, high input lag or just a spike from high variance can absolutely mess you up.

Also input lag affects you whether you perceive it or not.

And no, DF doesn't cover input lag, they're fucking worthless. There's a port they covered that had 130ms of input lag compared to around 60ms of the original and they didn't say anything. What a fucking joke.

Alright that's fair, I don't play a lot of twitch heavy retro gaming like shmups and fighters. However, I wouldn't notice the 5ms lag in a controller when the entire setup on average adds 20-60ms.

Buddy if you're worried about electromagnetic waves in the frequency range that bluetooth emits you've got much bigger problems than a wireless controller. You get hit with more energy at a higher frequency by turning on a lightbulb
