all early 3D adventure-platformers, including those are more direct tr clones or derivatives, were just shallow copies without 1% of the movement/traversal depth, level design and gameplay mechanics

This is an unfair comparison, FAKK2 has way better combat than TR, it's got both melee and ranged weapons, as well as shields, it even lets you dual wield! The platforming is not much but you can shimmy and hang off ledges, which is something I guess.

Barbie: Explorer (PS1). I know it sounds like a joke, and when you get into it everything sounds worse, it's both a Tomb Raider and a Crash Bandicoot clone... but man, it plays alright! It's relatively short, challenging at times, but nothing crazy if you're not going for 100% completion, which is infuriating and made me give up on it, but a regular run? I'd recommend trying this... at least once.

Comapnies just rushed to release whatever they could make and by time someone figured out how the game worked the industry had moved onto ripping off Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64. Tomb Raider gameplay was quickly outclassed and the series itself stagnated despite having great level design.
