It was only obscure if you lived in western insect land. And itโ€™s the best way to play Musha Aleste if you run MAME and assign mouse axes to the analog stick.

the videogame industry in the 80s, 90s, maybe early 2000s was essentially being run by kids in adult bodies
investors saw that videogames were making money so they threw money at some of those computer kids that told them they could definitely make a videogame
and that's a good thing!
the industry getting increasingly more professional and streamlined and focused and scientific and results oriented gave us the field of slop we have today
