SMW and ALttP are two of the most insultingly ugly games I've ever played. They put the salmon pink and turd brown color palette of most Genesis games to shame. I had absolutely no desire to play them again after beating them once. Island is alright but I'll be honest, I had more fun with YS. FF sucked after FF1 and 3(6) is no exception. If I had to pick four actual good SNES games, it would be DKC1, Secret of Mana, Lost Vikings and Super GnG.

I'm currently replaying Divergent Paths and I can't for the fuck of me remember how to get the fifth guy in the merchant's room. Y'know. After you get Setzer and the airship, you can travel to different towns and get the guys for that room like Lone Wolf and Arvis in Narshe (well, you have to see LW there then actually recruit him in Zozo), Mid in Figaro and Ziegfried at the colosseum (after his amusing interaction with Siegfried). I got those four but i can't remember who the fifth one is nor where to get him (or her?) but I know I had the fifth guy on another, now saved over, file

Super Metroid is overrated. It's not a bad game, but it feels like Super Metroid is popularly known as “the holy game of the SNES” and a lot of you will repeat it ad nauseam without further critical thinking. I understand that its atmosphere and soundtrack has a lot of personality, but its controls are obtuse, the map design goes to shit in Maridia and the sprite work in general is not *that* good. I really, really want to love Super Metroid, it feels like I *should* love it even, but it just doesn't get there no matter how much I replay it.

I really, really love all 4 of these games. SMRPG taught me to read, EarthBound had a more profound emotional impact on me more than any other game I've ever played, DKC was the first game I ever played and Illusion of Gaia I only beat recently but it was a lot of fun, great exploration of real world locations, and had a surprisingly deep and romantic story. And on top of all the personal memories and emotional stuff, there are all just rock-solid games.

Nobody mentioned fucking Mario Kart, the game Nintendo banks on until this day……. Illusion of Gaia was pretty popular then. Lots of shit franchise names you would have liked as a kid carried the SNES, sure your grown up and power rangers sucks now, but to kids that was a good game. It’s not that SNES has the most insane library of games, it’s just other systems sucked worse with seriously bad shit. SEGA had a lot more shit games that SNES and the hits that Nintendo had…. Well, super Mario world was a fucking grand slam and that’s enough to justify its existence. STAR FOX, Fzero, chrono trigger. SNES exclusives that were enough to carry the system. 3 donkey Kong country games…. At the time, SNES games were excellent in comparison to any other system. Bonk? MEH, SONIC? Relied on gimmicks like cartridge combos and sega cd and 32x and they all floundered and everybody knew Mario and Nintendo won. Normal people aren’t judging a system by a rom library as a whole. They bought maybe 5-10 games if that. If that collection has any of the hits on it, and your friend brings his sega over and he’s got 10 games and he’s got a few hits, guess what happens you plug both in and play the best few games on both systems. And more often than not your playing SNES longer. And I love me some sega but it just doesn’t stack up.
