Was Halo's music, sound design and Dolby 5.1 Surround awe-inspiring for 2001?

If you knew enough about those things to outright notice them?
The huge stepup in gaming overall was the first impression, with graphics in the forefront of the minds of most consumers.
As for music, it didn't really change much from PS1 to PS2 other than quality up and surround possibilities to feel to delay and reverb more. Other than that FF7, FF10, Halo etc. are still using the same Roland synths. Now most games use sample libraries and oftne uncompressed, which many people probably don't notice, and sample libraries pale to the sound design of old Roland stuff, so not much haa progressed.
