Been playing like 10 minutes and already ready to drop it
>only two fucking fixed jump paths, either straight up, or in a big arc. No analog jumps, no short hops, no small arcs, no ability to adjust while falling
>extremely similar level designs, enemies, weapons, graphics/artstyle, mechanics, and soundtrack to the first game. Basically just feels like an expansion or romhack
>most subweapons are worthless and they are permanently lost if you die once or accidentally touch a new subweapon
>broken hitboxes (spikes oneshotting you despite being many pixels above your sprite's head)
>same stupid wall turkey shit where you have to whack every single wall in the game for hopes of an HP refill
>whip has an extremely long delay to it
>whip upgrades that serve no purpose beyond feeling like shit the first 15 seconds when you respawn
>right edge of the screen has an open path that looks you can progress, but no, it's just an invisible wall and you are meant to take the stairs down (not a big deal, just shows how lazy and unpolished it is for this to appear in the first five minutes)
Everything about this game just feels *BAD* from the shitty jump mechanics, to the delayed whip, to the annoying subweapon system, to the boring and samey level design.
>>11886559 (OP)Play the Japanese version.
>>11886569I am, all those apply to JP version. It just has awful core fundamentals
>analog jumps
Stfu no one says this
>So I Played Castlevania 3 In 2025 And... It Has NOT Aged Well...
>>11886559 (OP)most of this is either a skill issue or an intended design choice tbqdesu. if you're not baiting then reset the game (assuming you're past the first level anyway) and go on up the first route for a more acrobatic partner, the stage is pretty hard but he's very helpful for learning the game. but do not under any circumstances go down on the second route, because that part of the game actually sucks major ass
>>11886591also on either latter route there'll be a second partner waiting for you but you can only have one so deny them when they ask to join
>>11886559 (OP)Also the levels scroll up and the second the camera pans past an area it just becomes an instant death void.
What a straight fucking ass game.
>>11886559 (OP)It feels bad because you're more used to games that offer less challenge. If you're not enjoying it then just move on, otherwise eventually you'll adjust to it like other older games.
>>11886569>>11886573>japanese versionOh nevermind, you're a cuck. May as well just type HELPME from the start.
Bunch of fucking crybabies. If you can't handle the heat, get the fuck out and go play something easy.
>>11886614I like both older games and challenging games. I've one life cleared most of the Metal Slug and Contra games. The issue with Castlevania is it both looks like shit and plays like absolute shit. There is not a single aspect or mechanic that is actually done well that I've seen thus far.
I never got the hype for games like Rondo of Blood and Mega Man X, but I guess if garbage like this is your point of reference, those two probably look like masterpieces by comparison
>>11886624Nah, you're just seething because you got filtered. Hating a hard game and being bad at it go hand in hand.
Also Metal Slug and Contra aren't somehow great accomplishments, as if they're also not memorization. They aren't even considered close to difficult retro games.
>>11886559 (OP)I finished this game before my balls finished dropping.
There's this super secret device you can try called a "Game Genie".
>>11886624Then stop trying to play it, faggot.
>>11886643But it's on his backlog! You can't just quit games you're trash at.
>>11886632If you're gonna shitpost you could have just said "Truly the Dark Souls of this generation!".
>>11886634>They aren't even considered close to difficult retro games.Shut the fuck up you retarded clown. Metal Slug is one of the hardest action games out there, especially on one credit, or one life as stated.
>muh no true hard game!!Name a hard game you spineless retard, preferably one you have actually cleared and aren't just regurgitating what reddit said
>>11886649I'm just saying the game is dogshit, I've played it for like five minutes and already seen enough. I've done majority of the Contra games, majority of the Metal Slug games, Sunset Riders, Gun.Smoke on a single life. Difference is those are good games, this isn't.
>>11886634>Also Metal Slug and Contra aren't somehow great accomplishments, as if they're also not memorization. They aren't even considered close to difficult retro games.Let me guess.... you haven't 1CC'ed either of those games and are a shitter with no clears.
>>11886678I dunno anon, calling it a romhack of the first game while simultaneously complaining about things like "analog jumps" just sounds like faggotry for the sake of faggotry to me. Maybe you should go play more Metal Slug and Contra?
>>11886678>Shut the fuck up you retarded clown. Metal Slug is one of the hardest action games out there, especially on one credit, or one life as stated.Holy cope! Imagine actually being this retarded.
Since you bring up reddit maybe you should go back, they might actually be impressed. Maybe leave out the part where you get filtered by video games 10 minutes into them.
>>11886681>i 1cc'd fucking contra guys! i'm hardcore!what the fuck happened to this faggot board
Holy fuck the physics of these cogs is so retarded, your character just stands on air but if you dare to move, he just phases right through and falls in the void
There is an alternate reality where this game is remembered as garbage shovelware that's so bad that people just laugh at it. Just pure delusion to put this anywhere near the same tier as action or platformer greats.
>>11886695Like 99% of this board has zero 1CCs. I wish I was joking.
This board is even more casual than /v/, and that's fucking saying something.
>>11886703i'm not sure what your point is? that's true but this faggot is literally boasting over contra and metal slug 1. not even the harder games in their own fucking series kek. also i don't fucking believe him anyway he says he gave up castlevania after 5 minutes
>>11886608Whaat! WHAAAAT! Wait, seriously? I bet it doesn't even make your character have to poop a while after he eats a wall turkey! What a HIGH-KEY bad game! Is there at least a system for tracking the level of friendship between your party members! And a color-blindness switch in the menu! If not I am taking it back to CoolROM and demanding to speak with the manager! BE BETTER, KONAMI OF 1989
>>11886709>majority of Metal Slug and Contra gamesCan you read you fucking retarded subhuman?
>>11886624What kind of a broken person does a one-life run through Contra and then flips out about the jump mechanics in CASTLEVANIA of all things.
>>11886702Yeah the gear physics are pretty rough. I'm with you on that point, although I don't mind it because you just learn how to deal with it after a few tries and then it's never an issue again.
>>11886720desu i missed that part i was too busy laughing over you getting BTFO 5 minutes into castlevania. no one believes you.
>>11886723that's what i'm saying bro. this whole thread is bullshit or ragebait.
>>11886723Contra one life is pretty easy though, and it's a great game. Castlevania 3 is just trash.
>>11886751yes, good that you admit you like easy games and sperg out over difficult ones. thanks for letting us all know you can give up on the game game now or keep seetheposting instead.
Ok, I found the guy, now why the fuck am I backtracking through the whole level now???
Are they really this fucking lazy? Who the fuck said you 'you know what Castlevania needs? More stupid pointless padding!!'
What an utterly shit game
>>11886759Learn how Grant works in the familiar stage, anon. If you're actually playing the Japanese version, his attack has an extremely beneficial property to it for climbing down the tower.
>>11886709>>11886757Metal Slug 1 is the easiest of the mainline Slugs but still an extremely difficult game, it's harder than like 98% of retro games
>>11886761He can't even make one of the jumps because he barely jumps yet clings to everything. Fuck this shit character, I want adjustable jumps, but not some faggy spiderman shit. I'm sticking to simon
>>11886702>There is an alternate reality where this game is remembered as garbage shovelware that's so bad that people just laugh at it.No there isn't. If it were actually a bad game like you're pretending it is, it'd be remember the way Silver Surfer is: "great soundtrack, too bad about the game though"
This is your cue to say "muh music" and tell me to go back to R*ddit and drop a "dogshit" somewhere and otherwise continue to be a living mass of memes that used to be human until it became overtaken by a desire to fit in socially with people who that former human childishly believed to be cool even though they were little more than empty husks filled with memes themselves. Please, after posting your retort, try doing a challenge run through the next month of your life in which you don't say anything mean-spirited online or use any popular Internet catchphrases. A single month. Can you do it, or are you just a casual who wouldn't even dare to try? If you aren't weak, go on and show it. Actually ask yourself the question of whether you'd be capable of completing this challenge, if you wanted to and seriously tried. Then if the answer is no, quit being haughty about Metal Slug, casual. If it's yes, PROVE IT. You can start today.
>>11886759>i hate replaying stages>let me just claim to 1cc multiple gamesHow many you guys on /vr/ are actually autistic neets? I thought this was the boomer board. Next you'll tell me there's speedrunners here.
>>11886763Apparently you're retarded and wrong, seems like it's not harder than Castlevania 3 weaboo edition!
>>11886769his jumps are adjustable, retard-kun, just hold the button down. also his wall cling is a very useful mechanic, not so much in this level as in later ones iirc but you can skip entire sections of levels with it. admittedly though they're a little finicky if you don't get how they work when readjusting yourself. say you're on a ceiling and try to get onto the wall, you stop holding up and then immediately hold right so that grant sticks on the wall.
>>11886773>oh man I love RE4, I've replayed it probably 20 times by now>HURR DURR THAT MEANS YOU WISH THE GAME MADE YOU BEAT EACH LEVEL 20 TIMES BACK TO BACK TO PROCEEDChrist, you are so. Fucking. Stupid.
>>11886783to specify, you hold right when clinging on the left, and left when clinging on the right
>>11886790You're getting filtered by Japanese CV3 and crying about it. Let that sink in you absolute giga faggot.
You didn't 1CC fuck all except for your parents disappointment.
Finished contra, couldn't make it past the Clocktower without raging on /vr/.
Make it make sense.
(protip: it doesn't)
>>11886812>5 minutes in CV3 vs. multiple hours in ContraGee Idk
>>11886559 (OP)Jesus 45 replies to this shit. Kill yourselves.
>>11886817????
Is this supposed to be a defense of some sort?
>>11886559 (OP)>>only two fucking fixed jump paths, either straight up, or in a big arc. No analog jumps, no short hops, no small arcs, no ability to adjust while fallingThis isn’t even true. You can jump then press left-right to do a shorter horizontal jump. Didn’t read the rest since you’re too dumb to get the first bullet point right.
>1cc'd all contra and metal slug games
>can't even get partway in the easy version of castlevania 3
Doubt, pressing X here.
>>11886846>>11886830>someone is bad at a game they've spent 5 minutes with and good at a game they've spent many hours with>this is totally inconceivable to the smoothbrainyou are one dumb motherfucker
Castlevania 3 just has cheap, shitty design. There is not one aspect or mechanic actually done well.
The only bad thing about this game is that the character swapping takes like 10 hours to finish. It's very rough after playing something like Bloodstained Curse of the Moon.
>>11886875>someone autisically finished multiple games 1CC but can't even play a supposedly much easier game without freaking out>this somehow is really IQ actuallyCastlevania 3 has amazing design and gameplay. Every aspect of the game is 100% perfect sorry buddy.
>>11886892>Castlevania 3 has amazing design and gameplay. Every aspect of the game is 100% perfect sorry buddy.made it too obvious
1cc's games but plays the easy version? This whole thread is a big troll.
Even if this was real people would laugh at him for cucking out.
>>11886896>made it too obviousDamn, I think you may actually be retarded brother. It was literally just the same post flipped opposite. Get tested for that.
>>11886903It's not about easy version, it's about superior version.
>>11886915Nice cope, it's the easy version. This thread is just actually bullshit, no one that cares that much impressing people talking about their 1cc's would try and flex playing the cuck version.
Anyone playing japanese versions better still be playing them when they're the harder ones. Otherwise you can keep you cope.
>>11886935I just play the better versions of the games. Like for GnG and GnG, I played the Japanese versions for both, which is slightly easier for GnG but significantly harder for GnG. It's a case-by-case basis.
For Castlevania 3, the same enemies arbitrarily getting stronger as the game goes on doesn't really make sense and is just lazy artificial difficulty bumping to reduce rentals. JP version also has less censorship and better audio.
>>11886950You do you, but you still beat the easier version. As long as you know trying to explain it away is a cope.
The only best case scenario is hacks which keep games difficulty.
>>11886962I really don't care. If I want, I may go back and beat the US version, but it was always the inferior version, with mindless changes just to make it harder because they wanted to reduce rentals and thought Americans liked harder games. CV3 JP is the true developer intent
Famicon Castlevania 3 is really popular with the reddit crowd. Tell us more OP.
>>11886972That's fine, If you really don't care there's no need for the constant explanations of why you only beat the easy version.
I don't care that you beat the easy version, my first post was directed towards OP.
OP is a massive baiter and its working.
>>11886559 (OP)This isn't your blog, sped.
OP is a massive faggot, as usual.
If it’s bait, it’s good bait, I lurk and never post. I was born in 1985 and got this game and Simon’s quest, Bayou Billy and Narc for Christmas in 1989. Back then I wouldn’t touch 3 until I beat Simon’s quest and I needed to read a book at Walden books that explained the dungeon was hidden beneath the lake and what side you had to kneel on to make it appear. Once the path was found I beat Simon’s quest and started on 3. It was so disappointingly easy and straightforward compared to trying to decipher all the cryptic messages and using holy water to find the laurels in Simon’s quest. I’m triggered so hard you suck so bad at castlevania, a game that was a disappointing challenge to four year old me. I wish I could transport you back to the 1980s where kids like me who beat games like this easily could bully and ridicule you properly for how shitty and unskilled you are. You don’t even deserve to hold a controller, you should use the cord and tie a knot around your neck and hang yourself for your weak excuses and low standards. I’m disappointed and disgusted with sucky losers like you who got no skills to get good and blame the game or developers. We got these games back then and had no choice to choose Japanese easy versions. My fucking mom beat a castlevania game, that’s how bad you suck.
>>11887323Castlevania 3 is much harder in terms of gameplay than Castlevania 2, it just doesn't have progression gated behind obtuse broken english translation. Which I don't even know why that matters since you just admitted to using a guide to figure it out anyways...?
You probably never even beat Castlevania 3, you dumbass, because no one thinks the later stages of Castlevania 3 is harder than Castlevania 2 with a guide.
And let's be honest, nobody cares what you did as a toddler. All these "child prodigies" peak early and it never amounts to anything, which is why they need to keep reminding everyone how skilled and smart they were as an elementary school kid. No one cares man, move on, you just sound pathetic.
>>11887338You and the guy you're replying to both sound extremely autistic.
You just revealed you think beating those games means you need to be a “child prodigy”. I don’t consider myself to be a child prodigy, I’m a normal 80s gamer with higher standards and you just suck.
Like I said before, tie your Nintendo controller into a knot and hang yourself.
Anyone who played Simon’s quest without a walkthrough would know the hint for the lake dungeon is hidden inside a block you must break with holy water in a random spot. “Mastering Nintendo games II” was the book with a brief paragraph explaining what to do. If one of the townspeople gave the hint the game wouldn’t be as notoriously cryptic.
This unironically feels like a /v/ thread except it's about a retro game
You've been playing for 10 minutes. You know nothing of the level design.
>>11887484This. OP probably doesn't even know about the other playable characters.
>>11886950>better audioVery debatable. And I prefer the difficulty of U.S, it's perfect
Been playing a bit more, JP version is way too easy. The bosses pose no challenge and the only deaths are stupid instadeath trollshit. Almost no game with unlimited continues and passwords is hard, but I seriously had way more trouble beating Sonic 1 than this.
You get used to most of the physics shit, but it still pisses me off about the whip upgrades because every time after you die, you have to waste like 30 secs upgrading the stupid whip back. Worst part is you either want to play only as Simon or only as his partner, because you really don't want to swap to Simon and he has the pisspoor basic whip when you need him most.
There's a subset of people here who think they're more hardcore if they like NES games over SNES era games. This is like the peak of that. You're not cooler than other people for enduring bad NES games. You're like that guy in the Simpsons who eats the orange with a big crying smile on his face
>>11886846this thread is either some inane sperg with a bizarre and highly unlikely set of cognitive issues, or the shittiest bait ever.
in either case, what an absolutely dogshit thread.
>>11887419I mean, it makes sense
/vr/ is /v/ but with retro games
>>11889736CV3 is not a bad NES game
