Does anyone miss this in many old games?
Particularly in survival horror.
Usually is a good way to get info on the surroundings or get to see what the protagonist perceives.

Parasite Eve 2 is my favorite one for this, it fleshes out the story a lot which is good because it's pretty damn boring otherwise.

I read a cool post on here once (I think) about how Leon in RE4 says/notices a lot of autistic stuff about architectural details, to a degree that you can tell one of the writers is autistically into architecture. I like that type of flavor for characterization, even when it's some random arbitrary interest like that.
I like this type of stuff in general though for sure; same with audio logs you find around the place, or emails in Deus Ex or something. When it's in a game I'm enjoying, i cannot get enough of it tbqh

I'm replaying at the moment - there are so many incidental conversations that you overhear from different characters covering deep philosophy and genetics.

Kinda related, but I also enjoyed noticing how someone involved in MGS 1 and 2 either worked for a long time in a warehouse kind of environment or is obsessed with them due to the design of certain areas and the wierd obsession with shipping and industrial components and pipes and shit.

Early games of the PS1 era were translated by a Japanese guy or done 'in-house' or sent to a third party, sometimes with no credit even given. Mikami also supervised and told them how he wanted it, despite barely knowing English. That's why it's so kino.

Reminder that the only way to find out that Jill has an unnamed boyfriend and hence the reason she and Chris relationship ended up platonic is by checking her desk.
Something Remakefags will never know.

Mgs2 was my first mgs game and a big reason I liked it so much is i just thought the industrial areas were cool and fun to explore. I didnโ€™t get the same feeling from what I played of mgs 3 and dropped it which I regret. But it was specifically me disliking jungle levels and me liking the attention to detail everywhere in mgs2.

Tighter isn't always better when it comes to writing, remember its supposed to sound like its coming from someone's mind. Does the mind always send words out neat and tidy and optimized? I don't even mind the grammar error. It humanizes it

They were however drenched in blood. And this is canon.
