The rise and fall of GH is really interesting, probably mirrors some rock band's career
>sudden underground hit
>goes big
>sells out
>splits, starts "the series formerly known as guitar hero"
>genre becomes oversaturated, everyone grows sick of it
>fades into nothing overnight

Rock Band 3 was depressing because it seemed like there would be support for it but nobody gave a single fuck. This shit died like 3DTVs and 3D movies.

GH1 is basically unplayable. Idk if it was any better on release before everyone got used to how 2 or 3 plays.

Yeah, the novelty wore off, "casual games on consoles" like Wii/Kinect were falling out of fashion after 7th gen, plus rock music died
Gen Z is probably the first generation that didn't grow up on rock and looks down on it
To be fair though, about same happened to DDR

Guitar Hero (well specifically, GH2) got me laid in college a couple times. I’ll always have a soft spot for it

Are you trying to play on an emulator?
1 and 2 required strict precision, then Neversoft loosened things up for 3 and made it more fun imo. Rock Band seemed slightly more forgiving as well, though it was still Harmonix.

GH1 and 2 were made in that awkward time when we were transitioning from CRTs to HDTVs, so the input lag and precision varied so much that they put a lag compensation thing in the options so that everything feels right.

Same reason you can't play Frequency/Amplitude without a CRT. Thankfully there's Amplitude Deluxe.

It was inevitable. At some point all the songs you would really want to do the air guitar thing for had already been done and once you start getting into entire games devoted to single artists the whole thing is becoming increasingly niche. If you give that much of a fuck about learning Metallica's entire catalogue at some point just buying a real guitar makes more sense

>Are you trying to play on an emulator?
Well, yes. I've played plenty of GH and RB games on emulator, mainly with RPCS3 but also Rock the 80s.
I can hit regular notes fine. The HOPOs are so fucked that you have a better chance just strumming every note. Also the lack of hyperspeed sucks if that's what you're used to.

Gen Z sees hard rock like hard rockers saw rock and roll, cool but antiquated. Gen Z guitarists do math rock or garage, some still get it

Did they ever improve the fret buttons so they were faster to spring back and didn't hurt your fingers, or improve the picking thing (it's not a button, so wtf do you call it) so that it is faster?

hammer-ons and pull-offs are very precise, as precise as strumming the note normally but you are doing it with your off-hand.
they changed it in GH2 and all subsequent games to let you release or hit the new note with a greater window which is honestly more accurate to a real guitar doing that same thing.
