I never knew back in 1997 that this was as good as platformers were ever going to get.

Crash mogs...
>Mario
>Sonic
>Rayman
>DKC
>Tomba
>Kirby
>GnG
>Ape Escape
>Ducktales
>Mega Man
>Croc
>Gex
>Oddworld
>Spyro

I've tried them all, Crash is still the best by far (DKC was close)

I'd say Mario 64, Spyro 1, and Crash 2 are all good candidates for best gen 5 platformer

My first game ever was SMB1, then I got a Sonic 2 Genesis bundle for Christmas and became a huge Sonicfag(before the fandom got weird). I played the shit out of Crash 2 and 3 in the PS1 era also.

In retrospect the only one I can go back to and thoroughly enjoy out of the 3 franchises in their heyday is Crash.

every mainstream 6th gen platformer is better than the PS1 crash games. i have no idea how anybody found this focus tested garbage endearing.

i would happily play wario world or blinx for 2 years straight than suffer through the PS1 crash games for a few weeks. the best thing crash ever produced was the first few levels of the first game, and it was all a steep downhill incline from there.

I have to disagree. Never played Blinx but find it weird how you mention Wario World of all things. To me it felt like the blandest shit ever, Kao the Kangaroo and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger type shit despite being made by Treasure under Ninty's supervision
>Tasmanian
That reminds me, I liked Taz Wanted more than Jak 1 and Sly 1 (never bothered playing past the first entries) which are supposed to be among the greatest PS2 games

You know, I should add playing and 100%ing SM64 and SA1 not too long ago was also great fun. Seems like side scrolling platformers are what no longer do it for me sadly considering it's what I started on.

Congratulations then, you have no taste in video games whatsoever, or one of those "weird kids" who fixate on 1 game

Jak 1 is a boring ass, slow-paced, baby difficulty collectathon. Couldn't stand that shit.

Jak II was an improvement across the board.

I think jak's moveset is kind of weak for pure platforming, the double jump is very bland and safe, the high jump is effectively a non move, might as well be a contextual action, the roll jump is so long and vertically shallow that it has pretty narrow utility.
the moveset as an assist for general action makes more sense.
